April Family Newsletter April 26. 2021
News and Notes
PSSA will be rescheduled for ALL students. Virtual students should not report for PSSA testing on Wednesday, April 28. We will be sharing our updated plan by mid-week.
Class Assignments for 2021-2022:
We consider classroom placement to be one of our most important tasks and I would like to share the process with you. Student placement is determined and reviewed by a team of professional educators. Each child’s academic, social and emotional growth, peer relations and needs are considered and discussed. We strive to create classes that are heterogeneous, function as cohesive groups, and provide each child with a teacher whose style will best meet his or her needs. We feel our time is well spent because we have a personal investment in each child. While we do welcome input regarding your child’s learning style, the elementary division of the Pottsgrove School District does not accept specific teacher requests. If you have any information you wish to share regarding your child or the type of teacher that would best suit your child, please send me an email or note by Friday May 14, 2021. We take all of this information into consideration when placing children in a class for the new school year. All emails regarding class placement should go to Mrs. Koehler at tkoehler@pgsd.org
Photo Make Ups: If your child was absent during our school photo days, we will have a make-up session on Monday, May 3 in the afternoon. Due to the proximity to the end of the school year, there will be no opportunity for re-takes this school year.
Kindergarten Registration: The Pottsgrove School District offers full-day kindergarten to all students age 5 on or before August 31. Kindergarten registration for the 21-22 school year is open. If you have a child that will be 5 years of age on or before August 31, please go to this link to register. https://www.pgsd.org/Page/9878. If you have specific questions, please reach out to West Pottsgrove or Ringing Rocks Elementary Schools for more information.

Important Reminders for Parents:
1. Students are required to wear masks while in the building, on the bus and on the playground. Teachers schedule mask breaks throughout the day.
2. If your child is not feeling well, please do not send them to school. Please refer to the school exclusion guide below for more information. We continue to be in consultation with the Montgomery County Department of Health regarding COVID concerns.
3. Children are reminded to bring a water bottle every day, our drinking fountains are currently not in service. As we head into warmer weather, children may want to bring an extra water bottle along for recess and physical education class.
4. Student drop off is at 8:30 AM. We cannot accept students into the building prior to that time. The school day begins at 9:00 AM.
5. Attendance and work completion are very important. Completion of Wednesday Work is important so that attendance can be recorded for that day.
End of the Year Activities
Friday, May 21: We will have a combined STEAM/Field Day with socially distanced activities for the children to participate in. Activities will be scheduled throughout the day to allow for fewer students in any one given area. We will be in communication with families with the plan for virtual students to participate if they choose to. Due to our current Health and Safety Plan, spectators will not be permitted. Thank you in advance for your understanding. The PTA will be providing all students with a shirt to remember the day. Fifth grade students will receive a special commemorative shirt as is tradition.
Wednesday, June 9: We will hold a virtual Fifth Grade Celebration at 10:00 AM. We are making some changes to the structure and parring down the number of awards given. Due to the circumstances of this school year, we will not be giving Presidential Academic Achievement Awards or Attendance Awards/Recognition. We will be recognizing some students with Citizenship Awards and we will be recognizing other students for their contributions to the building over the past school year. Our focus is to celebrate the fifth grade class and their perseverance and resilience over the past year. The program will be recorded for families unable to attend in person.
Thursday, June 10 and Friday, June 11 are the last two days of the school year. Both days are noon dismissals. Lunch is not served on these days, breakfast will be available. Teachers will share their schedules with their classes. We will also be scheduling a time for the pick up and drop off of materials for our Virtual Students. Details will be coming by the end of May.
