Adding and subtracting fractions.


Adding


  1. Find the common denominator by multiplying. If it already has the same denominator you don't need to find a common denominator
  2. If you multiplied the denominator you must multiply the numerator by the same multiple.
  3. Then add the numerator. But don't add the denominator.
  4. Lastly simplify your answer if you need to.


Subtracting


  1. Find the common denominator by multiplying. If it already has the same denominator you don't need to find a common denominator
  2. If you multiplied the denominator you must multiply the numerator by the same multiple.
  3. Then subtract the numerator. But don't subtract the denominator.
  4. Lastly simplify your answer if you need to.

Dividing fractions

Keep, change,flip

  1. Keep, keep the first number the same.
  2. Change, change the division sign to the multiplication sign.
  3. Flip, flip the second fraction to get the reciprocal.
  4. Lastly multiply across and simplify you answer if you need to.

Multiplying decimals

  1. Line up your place values and then multiply normally.
  2. When you have your answer skip as many place values that are after the decimal in your numbers.

Dividing decimals

  1. make your divisor a whole number, by moving the decimal.
  2. Then if your dividend has a decimal move it back the same number of spaces you did to your divisor .
  3. Do regular long division, make sure to line up your place values!
  4. If your dividend has a decimal in it move it straight up.

  3. Bring the decimal straight down to you answer
