Intersession Invitations Due!
When students miss school or arrive late, everyone suffers. Teachers spend time collecting makeup work and reteaching. Meanwhile, other students, who are ready to learn, must wait.
Your child's most fundamental school-related responsibility is to get to school on time every day, and elementary school students are dependent upon their parents to get them here. To support your child:
Stick to a schedule. Establish evening and morning habits that help your child be prepared. For example, select outfits and pack lunches at night.
Schedule carefully. Make medical and other appointments during non-school hours when possible. School should be a priority when planning family trips, too. GSD's Flexible School Calendar allows for family trips during intersessions, so please do not schedule your trips before or after intersessions. If your child must be absent, work with your child's teacher to help your child complete makeup work.
Seek help when needed. Many problems contribute to missing school. If your family struggles with health, transportation, work, child care or other issues, please call our front office at (228) 865-4625. We will offer help if we can and offer strategies to help you. Our shared goal is to help children get to school and learn while they are here at Bayou View Elementary School.

International Dot Day Is This Wednesday! Let's Make Our Mark One of Excellence!
Bayou View Elementary will be celebrating International Dot Day on Wednesday, September 15. International Dot Day is a celebration of creativity inspired by The Dot written and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds. It is a day to think about ways in which we can use our special talents to make the world a better place. BVE definitely needs to LEAVE our mark on the 2021-2022 school year instead of it leaving a mark on US! How will you leave your mark?

What did you want to be when you grew up?
Children are never too young to explore what they can do when they grow up. As we give them the academic foundation they need to enter college and the workforce, we also want to give them opportunities to research and learn about professions they never considered or knew existed. We want to expose them to career fields that inspire them to be problem solvers, lifelong learners, and productive members of society. We want to help them tap into their talents to realize their dreams. Here's where you come in...
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Do you have 30 minutes a week available to help students improve upon their reading skills? If so, BOOST needs you! BVE strives to be a top school in the state, and our volunteers are an integral component of our success. Being a BOOST mentor is a rewarding experience for both you and the student. If you are interested in becoming a mentor or finding out more about the program, please contact our BOOST teacher Beth Liberato at beth.liberato@gulfportschools.org
Revisiting Difficult Learning Standards
We currently have 353 instructional videos, and each video provides a great lesson listed by standard for students and/or their parents to view. Parents can also visit the Mississippi Education Series link below to view other recorded lessons by GSD teachers and staff.
The Importance of I-Ready
Parents, please encourage your child to complete the required i-Ready minutes in i-Ready Math and i-Ready Reading each week. Although we require 45-60 minutes each week, most of this time is afforded to students while they are in the classroom. Our focus is not solely on the completion of minutes, but rather is on the actual learning your child gains by completing i-Ready lessons successfully. We have our students aim for an 85% or above on each i-Ready lesson. Students should be completing at least two lessons per week in each subject. In younger grades K-1, lessons are shorter in length, and students should complete more than two lessons weekly. We encourage you to monitor your child's progress in i-Ready weekly. We thank you for your support!
