Happy Friday!
Wednesday, October 31st, is Literacy Day at Parkside! We encourage students to dress as their favorite book character and engage in class activities focused on all things literacy! Students are asked to bring the book of the character in which they have chosen to dress up. Please be advised, students are not permitted to bring props to school (no masks, toys, weapons, etc.). All costumes must remain in compliance with the LISD Dress Code.
November 1st: Early release at 11:45am. Lunch will be served.
November 2nd: Student Holiday/Staff Professional Development Day
ADAPT: All students K-5 will receive instruction and information on drug awareness required by the State Mandated Health TEKS from the PE teacher and or ADAPT ((Alcohol Drug Awareness and Prevention Team) counselor on 11/5 or 11/6 during PE class. K-4th grade lessons will include a short video followed by discussion on tobacco. 5th grade lessons will also have a short video and discussion that will be led by the district ADAPT counselor on drug awareness. Additional information for parents is available at the this ADAPT link : https://sites.google.com/leanderisd.org/parkside-pe/adapt-drug-and-alcohol-lessons.

Morning Drop Off Procedures
Morning Procedures at a glance:
- School begins promptly at 7:45am. Traffic is always an issue, so please plan for long lines in the mornings. We are required to document students who arrive past 7:45am as tardy and those students will be required to obtain a pass from the office before heading to class. If walking students to class, you must enter the building prior to 7:45am.
- When dropping students off by car, please do not park your car in the drop off line. Parents are welcome to park in a parking spot to bring students into the building.
- Please make sure to follow the routes located below. These traffic patterns ensure the safety of our students and families entering and exiting our campus.
- Our teachers are expected to be at their doors in the mornings, greeting our students as they enter the classroom. This is a great way to set the tone for the day with our students. If you would like to speak to your child's teacher about specific concerns, we ask that you set up a parent/teacher conference. This ensures that our teachers can give you the time and attention needed to have a meaningful conversation with you about your student's progress.
We appreciate you support and cooperation! :)
PTA Reflections Deadline Extended to Monday, Oct. 29th
Spinal Screenings for 5th grade Girls
Our school will do spinal screenings for 5th grade girls on 11/12 -11/16. State law says that schools must screen female students for spinal problems at age 10 and 12 or the fall semester of grade 5.
Important Recommendations:
· All students will have to remove their shirt for the exam.
· Girls should wear a sports bra or two-piece swimsuit top.
If you do not wish to have your child screened for religious reasons, you must submit an exemption to the school no later than 11/9/18. Letters with more detailed information will be sent home in Wednesday folders on 10/31/18. Thank you for your cooperation.
