Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope that everyone was able to enjoy the mid-winter break. With the snow yesterday and today, it made the week go by very quickly. I do not have a lot to report out to everyone. I know there are still questions about the upcoming schedule change, and we have had a lot of feedback from both parents and staff so we are still working on finalizing everything. We will share additional information and updates on Monday afternoon. That’s all I have for now. Please see below for more news and notes. As always please let us know if you have any questions.

Have a nice weekend.

Thank you.

Michael Seroussi

FRIENDLY REMINDER - If your child is going to be absent from school (any day of the week, whether it is an in school or distance learning day), you must report your child's absence to the school by either filling out the link below or calling (860)228-9423 X4008 by 8:30am. The link can also be found on the RHAM Middle School website under “Parents”.

Absence Option - Your child has the option to distance learn for the day instead of taking an absence. The school still needs to be notified using the methods above, should this option be utilized. Please specify this reason when entering the attendance form. The completed form or a note is needed for the absence to be excused.

Notes From the Nurse

** Friendly reminder to please make sure to inform the school nurse if your student is presenting with any Covid-19 symptoms, has been tested for Covid-19 or has been exposed to Covid-19.**

Although CDC does not currently recommend conducting universal symptom screening at school, students should not attend school when they are sick. Home symptom screenings rely on students and their parents, guardians, or caregivers initially identifying when the student may have signs and symptoms of illness and to take action (such as staying home). Please use this tool every day to ensure that your child is healthy and ready for learning.

Any of these Symptoms

● Fever above 100.4 when taken by mouth

● Chills

● Shortness of breath

● New uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing (for students with chronic allergic/asthmatic cough a change in their cough from baseline)

● Diarrhea, vomiting or abdominal pain

● New onset of severe headache, especially with fever

● Loss of taste or smell

Close Contact/Potential Exposure

● Has your child had close contact (less than 6 feet for greater than 15 minutes) with someone diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past 14 days? If so, you should quarantine for 10 days since your last contact with that person.

● If you have traveled out of state please check CT Travel Advisory for the latest travel guidelines and inform the school nurse prior to returning to school.

If Covid-19 testing is required or recommended for your child by your school’s health office based on symptoms, a negative PCR test result will be required in order for students to return to school. Similarly, if a pediatrician or healthcare provider outside of the school district requires or recommends a Covid-19 test based on symptoms, a negative test result will be required in order for students to return to school. These test results need to be submitted to the school nurse at
