Salish Ponds Elementary
April 2023
State Testing
State testing is around the corner. Students in grade 3-5 will start testing in April. Students will take an English Language Arts and Math Test. In addition our 5th grade students will experience a Science test. If you have questions about testing please reach out to the office or your students’ teacher.
During the testing window you can help by ensuring your child gets plenty of sleep, eats a good meal and comes to school on time. If they have any concerns about testing communicate with their teachers so we can help them feel more comfortable.

Counselors Corner!
Welcome back, Dragonflies!
Spring is here and with it, our new theme of Perseverance! Much like Resilience, Perseverance is our ability to continue working hard at something despite challenges and even failures we may face. Many of our students practice Perseverance naturally, from learning how to be a stronger reader and writer to being a better gymnast, dancer, soccer player, or basketball player! Through those efforts, we remind our students of what it means to be resilient, optimistic, and kind towards ourselves. Perseverance can look like trying again right after a challenge or taking a break and trying it again later. Supporting students during these difficult times might help them get over and through the tough part of a skill and improve. Not everyone will be a master at every skill; but keeping at it and reminding ourselves that we are all capable of doing hard things will definitely help them improve!
Here are some books and videos that can help you strengthen your scholar’s Perseverance:
K-2
· Sharice’s Big Voice by Sharice Davids with Nancy K. Mays
· Stacey’s Extraordinary Words by Stacey Abrams · The Thing Lou Couldn’t Do by by Ashely Spires
3-5
· Brave Irene by William Steig
· Jabari Jumps by Gaia Cornwall
· Whistle for Willie by Ezra Jack Keats

Hello all! I graduated with my Master’s in teaching from Concordia University in 2016.
I have taught grades 1, 2, 3 and 4 in Reynolds since graduating. I have an 9 year old daughter and a baby girl that was born last March. I love getting to know the students and families every year, and making the classroom a place where we can have fun, take risks, and learn together. In my free time I like to play board games, do puzzles, bake, read and hang out with my family.

Arrival and Dismissal/ Safety Concerns
Your patience at arrival and dismissal keeps our kids safe and the traffic moving! Thank you for driving with slow speeds, using our designated drop off areas, and for always checking with the adult on duty before leaving with your child.
Safety Concerns We need your help to ensure everyone's safety so we can avoid potentially dangerous situations for our students as they are getting dropped off to / picked up from school:
- Please do not drive around/over/through the orange cones - they are there to help traffic patterns and ensure your vehicle, your students and our staff remain safe!
- Park in the center parking lot only if you need to go into the building.
- Drive slowly and be considerate of drivers backing out of parking spots
- Allow students to get into/exit vehicles on curb side only
- Keep students buckled-up until vehicle is at a full stop
- Call the school if your student will be going home with a different person or in a different way
"Pro Tips" Here are some ideas for these times of the day that might benefit your family and help make our processes more efficient:
- We do not release students until 3:20pm and the pick-up line is complete in less than 15 minutes. Arriving early to line up in the car pick up lane doesn't always mean a faster pick up!
- If you consistently pick up your student in different cars or by different people, ask the teacher for another dashboard name sign so your pickup person will not need to be verified
- Park at the middle school north lot and walk to drop off/pick up your student! This could be a great time to talk and connect with your scholars without distractions (not to mention exercise a bit!).
This is a process we continually strive to make better and faster for you! Let us know if you have ideas!
