Welcome Back Families!
Back to School Newsletter 2022-2023
Note from the Principal
I hope you all are enjoying the final weeks of your summer holiday with your families and loved ones. My name is Max Gardner and I’ll be returning for my 3rd year as principal of Daniel Webster.
As we prepare to welcome students back onto campus for an amazing 2022-2023 school year, I wanted to send out our first official newsletter of the year with some important information about the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year. Please take a little time to go through the information below so that you and your child(ren) are ready to go on August 17th.
Have a great rest of your summer. I look forward to seeing you all in a few weeks!

Note from Rebecca Kee, PTA President
Hi DW families, welcome back and get ready for a great year! We're already planning lots of community-building events for the whole school year, but for now mark your calendars for 2 things:
- Saturday, August 13 welcome hangout for new Kindergarten families on our yard from 10am-noon. Very casual opportunity to meet other incoming families, don't stress if you can make it, we'll have other chances soon.
- Saturday, August 27 Back to School BBQ on our yard, from 11am-1pm. We can only do this if we get a few volunteers with grills so please let us know if you're able to bring one! And also someone who can help with a big shopping run.
Please start thinking about how you'd like to participate in supporting our community this year. We have some PTA support positions that are essential for keeping the good times rolling at DW, and none of them are overwhelming commitments. Take a look at the list below and let us know if you can join us in making it a great year!
Volunteer coordinator – Sara Judge / Room Parent Liaison – coordinate room parents and volunteers for events/tasks. Thank you Sara!
Fundraising chair – coordinates passive fundraising (amazon smile, etc) and active fundraising drives/events
Yearbook – someone collects photos throughout the year and leads a small team to design the yearbook
Teacher Gifts – December + May. Some meals for staff, grade levels collect $, maybe a few appreciation projects (ask parents to make thank you posters, etc.)
Graduation – fifth grade parent who can coordinate a graduation ceremony and sweatshirts
Membership Chair – get PTA member sign-ups – basically just keeping track of a spreadsheet of who signs up and sending out a couple reminders!
Can't wait to see you soon!
Your PTA executive team,
President – Rebecca Kee (rebeccakeepta@gmail.com)Vice President – Bridget Holian (bridget@causeadvisors.com)
Secretary – Sara Meskin (sarabmeskin@gmail.com)
Treasurer – Tim Kral (timkral@gmail.com)

After School Programs
We have 2 on-site after school care programs. The cost of each depends on various factors (family income, amount of time in the program each day, etc.)
ASEP: This is our largest after school program that is operated by a separate, non-profit organization. Click here to register for the 2022-2023 school year. You can reach out to their program manager, Ferkhunda Murad, if you have any questions <ferkhunda@asepsf.org>
OST: OST is an SFUSD operated after school care program. You can reach out to their program manager, Mona Suen, <suenm@sfusd.edu> and the program principal, Catherine Lewis <lewisc1@sfusd.edu> for more information
Classroom Assignments
You will be able to see your child’s classroom assignment on Parentvue within the coming days. You will also receive communications from your child's teacher a few days before the first day of school.
We will also post classroom assignments by the front door on Missouri Street on Friday, August 12th at 9 am.
School Supplies
You will receive information from your child’s teacher about school supplies for the year once school begins. The school site usually provides most supplies for students, but if you’d like to get a few things for the first couple of weeks of school, we’d recommend
- A backpack
- Refillable water bottle
- A hat for outdoor recess, PE and/or lunch
- Notebook to write on
- Pencils
- Color markers and/or color pencils
Emergency Card and Medical Forms for the 2022-2023 school year
For the new school year 2022-2023, families will be able to complete all required forms on ParentVUE beginning on July 1, 2022. Through the online emergency card form, families will be able to update their student’s health information, emergency contacts, and upload health forms and immunization records.
EMERGENCY CARD
You can now submit the emergency card for your child through the Parentvue Portal. Please visit sfusd.edu/emergencycard for more information. Families can also submit a paper emergency card to your school.
IMMUNIZATIONS AND MEDICAL FORMS
Make sure your student is up to date on all required immunizations for school by August 17. There may be a wait for immunization appointments with your healthcare provider, so get started as soon as possible
State law requires students to be up to date on immunizations. Your child may not be able to attend school in the fall if they do not have all the required immunizations or have appointments for the required immunizations. These immunizations help protect your child against serious diseases. You can submit health documents and/or proof of vaccinations
- Through the online Emergency Card in ParentVU on or after July 1
OR
- Bring documents on the first day of school
For more information, go to sfusd.edu/immunizations.
**If you need help accessing your ParentVUE account, please contact the Student and Family Resource Link
**NOTE: Families are able to update their phone number and email address anytime through their ParentVUE account: sfusd.edu/contactinfo.
