Notes from the Health Room
Beginning on Saturday, March 12, masks will not be required in or around all Franklin Pierce Schools facilities (including buses). Since the Tacoma Pierce County Health Department recommends the use of masks as an effective strategy to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we encourage staff, students and families to develop a personal approach that takes into account your own unique circumstances and the impact of your decision on those around you.
Students and staff who have symptoms of COVID-19, are required to stay home and should get tested and/or see a health care provider. Symptoms include: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting or diarrhea.
COVID-19 Testing is available for FPS students and staff Monday-Friday from 10am-12pm or by appointment at Historic Collins (4608 128th St E, Tacoma, WA 98446).
NEGATIVE TEST RESULT
- What if I test negative? Stay home until symptoms improve.
- When can I return? Students or staff can return after 24 hours without symptoms; or symptoms have improved, and have not had a fever for at least 24 hours.
- What do I do when I return to school? No additional requirements.
POSITIVE TEST RESULT
What if I test positive? Stay home and isolate for at least 5 days.
When can I return? Students and staff can return after 5 days if symptoms have improved, and have not had a fever for at least 24 hours.
What do I do when I return to school? Students and staff are required to wear a mask around others days 6–10 OR test negative with an antigen test to return without a mask.
What notification will the school provide after a potential exposure? Impacted staff and students will be notified if a person in known close proximity tested positive for COVID-19.
Christensen Elementary School will be holding another COVID19 vaccine clinic this spring. Information regarding dates will be announced soon.

2022/23 REGISTRATION FOR NEW KINDERGARTENS
We are preparing for the 2022-23 school year already! Registration for new kindergarten through grade 5 students who live within our school boundaries opens April 11th. A child must be five years of age on or before August 31, 2022 to be eligible to enroll. Please prepare to register by obtaining medically verified immunization records, birth certificate, and a proof of residence (utility bill, lease/rental agreement, or mortgage papers).
Current students who live within Christensen Elementary boundaries are automatically enrolled at Christensen Elementary for the 22/23 school year. Students who were overloaded to Christensen for the 21-22 school year will return to their home schools for 2022-23. Students living within our district but outside of Christensen boundaries who want to attend Christensen must complete a within-district transfer form online. Click on the Transfers and Homeschool link to access the correct form. Out-of-district students who wish to attend Christensen must complete a new out-of-district transfer (Choice Transfer) from their home district to be considered for enrollment.
