Belgium joined the European Union in 1985 and was a founder country of the EU too. Belgium used to be part of the Netherlands but gained independence in 1830. They have a federal parliament democracy under constitutional monarchy meaning a democracy with a a monarch that must follow the constitution.

The capital of Belgium is Brussels. Some major cities are Antwerp, Ghent, liege, & Aalst. Before the euro was their currency they used the Franc. Places that are visited are manneken pis, the cathedral of st.michael and st.gudula, & the atomium.
