Thank you for the donations that are already coming in!
At Eagle, we challenge each K-4th student to raise $50, and each preschool student to raise $25, with a school goal of $17,000. 100% of the proceeds raised by our Eagle students stay at Eagle! A donation form and return envelope should have been sent home with each student. PayPal donations may also be made at https://www.paypal.me/EagleElementary. All donations should be submitted by October 8th before Fall Break! This year at Eagle, K-4th students will jog for 35 minutes, and preschool students will jog for 20 minutes. A schedule of when each grade will run is included below. Teachers have secured just one volunteer per class to help monitor water breaks and trail safety. We will have a "cheer section" designated for spectators who would like to come cheer on the students! We ask each visitor to check in at the table that will be set up behind the school toward the bus lot/playground to receive a visitor's badge.

Outdoor Enthusiasts - Camping Unit in Wellness Class
This fall in wellness, we are working on creating a camping, hiking, and campfire cooking unit for our k-4 classes. The goal is to teach students about nature and let them explore various aspects of camping as we strive to learn about multiple ways to enjoy the outdoors. Students will also be working collaboratively with a small group to practice problem solving skills while setting up a campsite as well as learning about hiking and campfire safety alongside our partners at ZFD.
We are hoping to borrow a few items to help us get this unit off and running. If you have any of the following materials and would be willing to let us borrow them throughout the fall or donate, please contact Alyssa Jackson.
As we move toward the culminating activities for the unit, we will be reaching out for parent volunteers to help support our campfire cooking activities.
tripod and/or Dutch oven (3)
portable fire pits (3)
small portable camping stove
Store bought bundles of firewood (20-25)
Eagle Express Stamp Contest Finalists
Eagle Express, our student-led in-house mail service, is up and running again after a one year hiatus! To kick off the program, the 2nd grade class had a special visitor this week. Ms. Kinda Lashley, the acting Postmaster for Zionsville, came to visit the school and talk to the 2nd graders about how the postal service works. She even swore them in as honorary mail carriers. Eagle Express will deliver mail across the school every other Friday. Our next date is Friday, September 24th. Our 2nd grade mail carriers will check the mailboxes, sort the mail, and deliver it to the classrooms.
The kids love receiving mail, and we encourage you (or grandparents, or other friends/family) to send mail throughout the year. You can drop off letters at the school OR mail them to the school and mark them "attn: Eagle Express - (student’s name)". There are also 3 mailboxes in the school where students can place mail to be sent within Eagle - the front office, library, and bus exit door. In house mailing addresses can be found here
Encourage your students to write to friends in other classes or former teachers. It’s sure to brighten someone’s day!
The Eagle Express Stamp Contest winner has been selected based on teacher and staff voting! Congratuations to Kindergartener Merna Huber. Her stamp design will be used for all mail sent via Eagle Express for the 2021-2022 school year.
Thank you to all the students who entered the contest. We received over 180 entries this year!
Exciting news from the Eagle Elementary Cafeteria!
Beginning Tuesday, September 14, 2021, a daily breakfast will now be available for Eagle Elementary students from 7:45-8:00 AM. Similar to student lunch this year, the breakfast meal will also be provided at no charge to students.
Contained within each standard “Breakfast in a Bag”, will be an entrée (i.e. cereal or snack bar), juice, fruit and 1% white milk. Menus and related nutritional information are on the ZCS Food Service Department webpage; please click here to review.
After an introductory period of time, plans may include expanding the program offerings and allowing students the option of picking and choosing various menu items. This development will be impacted by both the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) requirements that certain nutritional guidelines are met, (e.g. calories, fat, saturated fat and sodium) and the actual availability of product.
This meal benefit, for both breakfast and lunch, is available to all students due to the temporary waiver from the U.S. Department of Agriculture as it relates to the NSLP. Please note that for both meals, there is a charge for any extra items beyond the standard meal.
As always, thank you for your support and feel free to provide any feedback or suggestions to Sheila Dibble, Food Service Manager at Eagle Elementary at email@example.com or to Jan Swander, ZCS Food Service Director at firstname.lastname@example.org .
One last item, there is an opening at the Eagle Elementary Cafeteria should you be so inclined. Your assistance would be most welcomed! Call Eva at 317-873-1232, ext. 11630 for details!

COVID QUARANTINE GUIDELINES UPDATE
Governor Eric Holcomb’s executive order changes the quarantine requirements for those masked individuals considered close contacts to a person who has tested positive for COVID-19. ZCS will continue to follow our district mask mandate, but effective immediately, anyone identified as a close contact in a masked setting is no longer required to quarantine (as long as the close contact is symptom-free).
Masked School Settings:
In settings, such as classrooms or on the school bus, where all students are wearing masks, close contacts who are within three feet of positive case will be notified to monitor for symptoms for 14 days. Those students will continue in school as long as no symptoms develop. If symptoms develop, students must isolate and obtain testing whether or not fully vaccinated.
Unmasked School Settings:
Close contacts within six feet of a positive case and in an unmasked setting (i.e. lunchroom, band) must quarantine with one of the below options.
1. Quarantine for 14 days (no test required).
2. Quarantine for seven days with negative test (PCR or rapid test done in lab) on days five, six or seven. Return on day eight if no symptoms develop.
*Unless fully vaccinated or previously ill with CoVID-19 within the previous three months and recovered, and without any symptoms.
CURRENT CoVID-19 PROTOCOLS
ZCS will continue to follow established CoVID-19 protocols and mitigation strategies including:
- Masks are mandatory in all district buildings and on school buses.
- Families of students considered to be close contacts will still be notified.
- Close contacts in unmasked situations must quarantine.
- Close contacts in any setting must quarantine if showing COVID-19 symptoms.
Please keep your child(ren) home if:
1. Child (ren) are sick or showing symptoms of CoVID-19.
2. Anyone in the household is awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test, exhibiting CoVID-19 symptoms, or has tested positive.
Please continue to carefully monitor your child(ren) for COVID-19 symptoms and do not send any child(ren) to school who show signs of sickness.

We will be welcoming instruction-based visitors/volunteers to our campus per the Eagle Start Guide. In addition to our background check requirements, guests to campus will also be required to complete a C-19 Waiver. Access to campus is subject to change. Note that at this time, we will not have lunchtime visitors or classroom party volunteers.
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR ALL GUEST TO THE BUILDING
During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign-in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times.
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR VOLUNTEERS
During the school day, all volunteers are expected to sign in at the front office. Prior to the volunteer opportunity, all volunteers must sign a Non-disclosure Acknowledgement Form and have successfully completed a Full Criminal History Background Check. Necessary background check paperwork is available on the ZCS website at the Volunteers/BRAVO link and should be submitted at least 10 days prior to the intended volunteer date. Volunteers must also view the state mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website. The volunteer will pay the fee* for the full background check which will expire after 5 years. The link to apply for the full background check can be accessed on the Volunteers/BRAVO link on the ZCS main webpage. For more information, contact the Volunteer/BRAVO Coordinator.
The linked document is the Covid Volunteer Waiver, which is new this year. This form must be filled out by every guest who enters our building. This is NOT a one-time form as it must be filled out every time a guest visits our school. You may print and bring this to the office with you or complete a copy when you arrive.
