Let's Recap the 2020 School Year!
Sunrise Academy- Building A Brighter Future
A Message from the Principal
Assalamu Alaikum Sunrise families and friends,
It is almost unbelievable how fast the first half of the year has gone by. Through much introspection, I continue to realize how blessed I am as a school leader to be surrounded by so many wonderful, caring, resilient and supportive students, staff members and families. Without question, this school year has been unlike any other we have faced, not only at Sunrise Academy but around the world! We encountered much uncertainty and made many adjustments. However, what appeared at times to be insurmountable challenges were conquered with our community's unwavering faith and support for Sunrise Academy. Our students have displayed an immeasurable amount of tenacity as the school environment has been altered and new learning platforms have been integrated using innovation in technology. You and your children have graciously answered the call, not once, but on several occasions. There are not enough words to express my gratitude and appreciation to you!
Although this pandemic has altered so much of our 'normal' lives, we are excited that it didn't effect our plans to expand classrooms in building A to accommodate Project Based Learning and STEAM accreditation. We graciously raised $100,452 and counting and our project is about 65% complete with an estimated completion date of January 5th. With this expansion, our Stallions will enjoy the benefits of larger classrooms, a school library and a STEAM lab, insha'Allah!
As we enter into Winter Break and experience some much deserved rest and relaxation, I urge you to spend time reflecting on the many things in your life that you may have been blessed with such as loved ones, faith in Allah (SWT) and good physical and mental health. Reflection and appreciation for the many blessings are an integrate part of our faith.
Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning):
“Those who remember Allah (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and think deeply about the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying): Our Lord! You have not created (all) this without purpose, glory to You! (Exalted are You above all that they associate with You as partners). Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire”
[Aal ‘Imraan 3:191]
I have no doubt that each of you has been personally impacted by COVID-19, be it by experiencing illness yourself, by watching a loved one fall ill, or by struggling with the sudden and extreme shift in the way the world functions. Overall, however, I think that we can all agree that in some way COVID-19 has reset our thinking and helped us to appreciate those things and people that are most precious to us. I wish I could tell you that we will no longer be impacted by COVID-19 when school resumes in January. However, we are not yet totally clear on the way it will impact how we serve our students. There remains the challenge of continuing to educate students in a meaningful way in a safe and nurturing environment. However, like any challenge, we will face it head on to ensure our students are receiving the best education possible while having their social and emotional needs met. We trust in the protection, grace, and healing of Allah SWT. There remains much uncertainty as counties in Ohio experience different levels of exposure, but at Sunrise we remain steadfast in our mission and purpose for you and our students.
As we have in the past, we vow to continue to meet the needs of your families and give our students the absolute best that they deserve. I humbly thank you for your continued support, love, and generosity in making Sunrise one of the best institutions for learning in Ohio.
