Life as an African American
African Americans are now roaming America and calling it their new home. We may have our opinions on it, but do we really know how they feel? Their life isn’t as glamorous as ours. Many free and enslaved African Americans in New England were willing to take up arms against the British. In exchange for our freedom, being African American, we have to slave for the military. Some of my friends are able to participate in the war, but the rest of us are slaving to the white folks.
Positive Event for Colonial Freedom
On April 19, Britain attacked untrained colonists. They were sent to arrest colonial leaders who had fled from Boston and also to destroy arms that the Patriots has stored but our heroes Paul Revere and William Dawes arrived. They were met by our angry militia. We won the battle and Britain retreated back to Boston. This win will definitely boast our confidence for the war ahead.
Independence is Key
On July 4th, independence was born for the thirteen colonies. The United States Declaration of Independence, signed by Thomas Jefferson, is the second continental Congress meeting at the Pennsylvania State House in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 4th. This document announced that the thirteen colonies, who were just at war with the Kingdom of Great Britain would regard themselves as thirteen independent sovereign states no longer under British rule. This was the independence we have all been waiting for, and we are finally free.
George Washington: Commander in Chief
George Washington was recently appointed the first Commander in Chief of the Continental Army on June 14th by Congress when the Battle of Lexington and Concord broke out. Washington has taken on a huge job with a lot of responsibilities including things like balancing regional demands. Throughout the war so far, Washington has been where all the action is. He directed the Seige of Boston to its victory. Although Washington has been successful, he has also lost land. Despite his best efforts, he recently lost New York and came close to losing New Jersey. Even though land was lost, George Washington is still looked at as a hero by all the people.
