Congratulations to our C.P. & Dorothy Johnson Humanitarian Award Recipients!
Our very own 5th grade students, Peyton Roach and Hudson Becerril Geiger, were recognized Thursday evening at the Northshore School District C.P. and Dorothy Johnson Humanitarian Award Virtual Ceremony. The C.P and Dorothy Johnson Humanitarian Award is an award that recognizes students who exemplify the characteristics of a humanitarian. Recipients of this award consistently demonstrate value and dignity of others, treat others with respect, and promote the common good. The Johnson’s are exemplars of humanitarianism who dedicated their lives to education and the advance of equity. Their legacy will continue to live on in Northshore through the recognition of students who have unyieldingly demonstrated a commitment to community, acceptance, and advocacy of their community and peers.
Peyton Roach:
Peyton embodies what a humanitarian is: she has a strong moral code, is kind and thoughtful to everyone, and always does what is right. She is wise beyond her years, and cares deeply about others. She is always looking for ways to be of service to help her peers, teachers, and community. Peyton never has any hesitation in welcoming others, leading by example, or speaking up for herself. She truly is the definition of a humanitarian.
Hudson Becerril Geiger:
Hudson has shown great growth during his time at Woodin and stands out as a humanitarian by doing the right thing. He is kind, a good friend, and is always willing to help others when they need it without even being asked. He stands up for his friends out at recess and has been someone to call out unfairness in games. He is constantly wanting to do the right thing, protect his classmates, and wants everyone to feel welcomed!
School Nurse Health Tips
Hello Woodin Families,
Please take a look at the following health tips and friendly reminders:
Try to include a variety of fruit and vegetables into your diet every day. A variety provides many elements that are important for keeping our bodies healthy.
Drink plenty of water, especially during the warmer weather.
Avoid foods with excessive salt, sugar and fat. Protein rich food sources are important for energy and alertness.
Choose whole grains and vegetables. Fiber is an important part of healthy diets!
Abstain from drinking energy drinks for they often include caffeine which interrupts the ability to learn and obtaining adequate sleep.
Try to avoid foods high in salt and refined sugar.
See the CDC website for information on how to clean and prepare foods safely.
Stay healthy and take good care of you!

PTA News
Every year the PTA awards 3 people in the Woodin community who have given exemplary service to our children. This year, in particular, we would like to be able to recognize these individuals. Our Woodin community has truly come together, strong and united, as we work together through the challenges of our remote classrooms. We need YOUR help in recognizing these individuals who have gone above and beyond for our children. Please take the time to nominate an individual(s) whom you think should be recognized! Please have Nomination forms submitted by May 22 to Bonnie Elzinga (hoy.elzinga@gmail.com)!
We will be awarding the following: Golden Acorn (individual who has shown dedication and service to our students), Outstanding Educator (individual who has gone above and beyond the normal scope of their role), Outstanding Advocate (individual who has dedicated service to all our students and committed to helping create strong policies with our students’ best interest in mind).
