Facts about marijuana
The amounts of chemicals in marijuana plants vary greatly. They differ depending on where the plant grows, the time of year, and even the time of day. That’s why plants grown in Mexico have so many more chemicals than those grown in the United States. That’s also why there are different qualities of marijuana; depending on where the plant was grown, it will affect you to a greater or lesser degree.
Marijuana contains more than four hundred different chemicals. However, only one chemical is responsible for the feeling you get from using marijuana. This chemical is called tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC expands the blood vessels in the lungs and in the brain, letting more oxygen into the rest of the system. It lowers the blood pressure and speeds up the heart. Because of the lowered blood pressure, less blood flows into the brain. This is why you feel light-headed, or high. It’s something like hyperventilating.
