Instructions for the Parent Portal can be downloaded (link below).
Grade 9 Registration at Steinbach Regional Secondary School
Grade 8 parents should receive an emailed letter from the SRSS regarding Open House and registration information.
Registration packages for the SRSS will be given to the students when the counselors meet with them at SMS (either March 3rd or 4th) and are due back at school by Friday, March 19th. Please do not pay the registration fees at this time. SRSS will collect those directly from you in the fall.
Registration deadline is March 26th, 2021.
This is a great time for everyone (Grade 5's to 7's) to have a look at their demographics (if you haven't done so recently) and make sure that we have the correct information on your child's student file. Please make sure your address, email addresses, phone numbers, emergency contacts, are all up to date, so that we can communicate with you.
Thank you for taking the time to do this!
March - International Women's Month
While Canada traditionally celebrates Women's History Month in October, we'd like to celebrate the girls and women in our school community this month.
We will be highlighting important women from Canada's history during announcements all through March. We also encourage our students, staff, and families to recognize important girls and women in their lives by using the #BecauseofYou tag.
You can read more about women's history in Canada and more about the #BecauseofYou tag here.
Stonybrook Middle School Sports Card Club
Despite Covid, SMS Sports Card Club Continues!
The next SMS SPORTSCARD CLUB will be on Thursday, March 18th at 7:00 p.m. on Google Meet.
The SMS SPORTSCARD CLUB is also having a "Winnipeg Jets Logo Coloring Contest." The contest is open to any student who has attended a club event this school year. For a coloring sheet or more information, contact Mr. Dewey at email@example.com.
The club is also selling packs of hockey cards for only $1. These 20 card packs are made up of mostly newer cards and 10 cents from each pack that is sold will go to help South East Helping Hands. So far, the club has raised $9.50. This offer is available until May 1st.
Looking Back on February...
I Love to Read Month
Reading is a skill that all students will use daily throughout their life. Here at SMS we try to support this skill in a variety of ways, including promoting a love of reading for each of our students.
February was "I Love to Read" Month, and to encourage and celebrate reading, we had different events planned throughout the month.
- Scavenger Hunt using our online library
- I Read Canadian Day - focusing on Canadian authors
- Favorite Book Character/Cozy Clothes Dress up days
- Library on Wheels - taking a cart full of books to the classrooms for the kids to browse/check out
- Every student that checked out a book from the library in February will receive a bookmark!!
Reading is alive and well at SMS!

Celebrating Black History Month at SMS
Several of our teachers themed their social studies classes around the topic of Black History last month, and Mrs. Rebizant shared stories about famous Black Canadians during morning announcements each day. From inventors to athletes to activists, our students learned a wide range of Canadian Black History stories in February, including Viola Desmond, Angela James, and Lincoln Alexander.
We hope that our students continue to enjoy learning about the diverse voices contributing to our school, community, and national identity. Celebrating Black History doesn't have to end on February 28th!
