The Miller Minute
#daretobe our personal best to inspire excellence!
August 20, 2017
A note from Mrs. West
This year, we will spend time developing characteristics of leadership. We will share a common book across our grade levels as we learn about hard-work, friendship, loyalty, cooperation, enthusiasm, self-control, alertness, action, determination, fitness, skill, team spirit, poise, and confidence. Check out the book, Inch and Miles: The Journey to Success by Coach John Wooden.
As part of the M*Powered Initiative, we will go 1:1 with student devices. Our learners will use iPads and develop skills as they collaborate, create, communicate, and think critically to meet the demands of Texas State Standards. Join us at Parent Orientation Nights to hear more!
The LME Staff is ready to #daretobe our personal best to serve you and your families this year! We cannot wait to get started! We are thankful for strong parent support and welcome your input! Together, we are better!

Solar Eclipse - A Note from the District
We are excited to see your student on Monday!
As you may know, there has been a lot media attention on the solar eclipse that will occur on Monday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Due to many safety concerns regarding irreparable eye damage, our district will keep students indoors between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Many of our PTAs and campuses have purchased solar eclipse glasses; however, most of these companies have recalled these glasses because they did not meet ISO and other safety standards. Other solar eclipse glasses companies are unable to verify they meet the specifications. We felt it was necessary to err on the side of caution rather than having a student or staff member experience irreparable damage.
Thank you for your understanding,
MISD Communications Team
