Avon Grove Charter School Spotlight
October 2020
From the desk of Kristen Bishop, Head of School
Next week we welcome back our kindergarten and 4th grade hybrid students to campus. Quickly followed by the rest of our elementary students and then secondary students.
We ask all staff, students and caregivers to exercise flexibility and patience as we transition to a model that asks teachers to balance the attention and support to students in the building and at home, simultaneously. This is new for all of us and there will be bumps along the way as we figure out a system that works to meet all student needs. Thank you for your partnership and for choosing Avon Grove Charter School.
Forward Together,
Kristen Bishop
Head of School/CEO

Health Services Updates
With the new state of health we, as the Nursing Department, have some new procedures that we would like to make you aware of for the 2020/2021 school year. After reviewing the following please let us know if you have any questions.
- Nurse cards are electronic this year. Forms can be accessed through Power School Forms. There are two forms to be completed. This information is important to the nurses as soon as the school year starts, even if your child is not on campus right now.
- No nebulizer treatments will be provided at school. Please work with your child’s provider for alternative options.
- Appointments are required to drop off medication. All controlled substances must be brought to school by a parent or guardian. Please email the nurse to schedule a time (hverderame@agcharter.org for State Rd and smillerhall@agcharter.org for ELC)
- Students who become sick during the school day must be picked up within one hour of the nurse contacting a parent or guardian. Please have a backup plan in case you are not available to pick up your child within an hour.
- Per AGCS handbook and CDC guidelines, parents will be required to assess their child(ren)’s health daily prior to reporting to school. Children with a fever (100.4 or higher), vomiting, diarrhea, or other symptoms should be kept home from school until symptom free per the AGCS Sick Child Policy.
- Please discuss and reinforce with your child(ren) proper hand hygiene and cough and sneeze etiquette.
- Face coverings are required during the school day per the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Department of Education.
- All grade level mandates and immunizations are required for the 2020-21 school year regardless of the education platform (virtual or in person).
This includes:
- Physical and Dental for Kindergarten
- Dental for 3rd grade
- Physical for 6th grade
- Dental and Tdap and Menactra for 7th grade
- Physical for 11th grade
- Second dose of Menactra for 12th grade
Any exclusion policies related to lack of documentation are in place and will be enforced per PA Department of Health/Department of Education mandates.
