Fun Walk Information
Hello Hathaway Families,
The Hathaway 2nd Annual Fun Walk fundraising is still in full swing and we have now raised over $20,000! Thank you all so much for this amazing effort!
Because the Fun Walk needed to be postponed, we extended our deadline for donations to November 8th. Please check out our Fun Walk website and review this flyer for more information and other payment methods available.
Mrs. Goss' 4th grade class is still in the lead to silly string Mrs. Little and Mrs. Hamilton's class is now close behind in 2nd place. Several other classes are still very close - it's anyone's game! Kindergarten is still in the lead for top fundaising grade, but it is a very tight race for that extra recess.
The Fun Walk has been rescheduled for Monday, November 1st at 9:15 am. As a reminder, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the walk. Parents are invited to cheer the students on. Please line up behind the cones on either side of the pathway. You can enter through the parking lot at the top of the pathway or through the gate at the bottom of the pathway. Please be sure to line up before the walk starts. Keep in mind that there is limited parking around Hathaway . . . please be considerate of our Hathaway neighbors when parking and consider carpooling to limit our impact on the surrounding residents. The students will gather outside at the end of the walk for pictures. We ask that parents please exit at this time. We will be sure to share some photos on Twitter and in the next Hathaway Happenings newsletter.
Please contact Dana at dmys2105@hotmail.com with any questions!

Home School Compact
We are proud of our students and grateful for our community. At the beginning of each year, we take time to reflect on how we can best work together so that all children can reach their potential.
As a school, the staff at Hathaway Elementary will --
* convene an annual meeting to explain the Title 1 program to parents and inform them of their right to be involved in the program.
* involve parents in an organized, ongoing and timely way in planning, review and improvement of Hathaway’s Title 1 program.
* provide timely information about our Title 1 program to parents, describe the curricula, the student assessments and proficiency levels students are expected to meet, provide opportunities for regular meetings, respond promptly to parent suggestions.
* participate in professional development opportunities that improve teaching and learning and support the formation of partnerships with families and the community.
* provide assistance to parents in understanding the RI Common Core Standards.
* make school an accessible and welcoming place for students and their families.
provide a positive environment in which all students are capable of success... no exceptions!
Please take a moment to review the Hathaway Home School Compact with your child. Once reviewed and signed, indicate your child's class and hit submit.
Thank you to all who have completed the form thus far. Our goal is 100%!
Anchored4Life
The Trevor Romain Company has teamed up with the United States Navy to bring our students transition and resiliency training. Hathaway School participated in our 5th annual Anchored4Life training on October 14th. We have eight Team Leaders in the school who have been trained to assist their peers with building positive connections, increasing self-esteem and positive self-worth, and integrating empathy and integrity into daily activities.
Our Anchored4Life participants will be welcoming new students to our school, showing them the ropes, and providing resources to help them integrate into their new class.
Our 2021-2022 Team leaders are: Leena Delconte, Chris Faria, Ben Fenster, Seamus Fitzpatrick, Autumn Joaquin, Addison Krupa, Sophia Purvis and Lincoln Squires.

Hathaway Notification Form
Please complete the Hathaway Notification Form.
Thank you in advance for helping us to keep things organized and safe in our Hathaway community.
Community Care of the Habitat
We are looking to form a committee that would help oversee the love and care of the schoolyard habitat and school garden. The committee would be tasked with organizing participants to help with weeding and removal of invasive species. Someone with more knowledge may know how to maintain the area better. The signup genius would help with organizing summer weeding but the committee would oversee the care of the area during the summer.
The school garden would need help with care and maintenance as well as harvesting and donations to our local food banks. We would love to extend our community connections with avid gardeners and the senior center. If possible we would love to connect these citizens to our classrooms for lessons outdoors.
Here is the sign up genius link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090C4DA9AA2DA3FA7-hathaway6
Asynchronous Learning
Students who need to quarantine will be provided with asynchronous distance learning. All teachers are prepared to have daily assignments and accompanying materials available for students on a regular basis. If an entire class is asked to quarantine, synchronous learning will be available to the entire class. Materials pick up may be scheduled.
Teachers will be sharing login procedures with students and families. It is important that your child is familiar with Google Classroom and how to access the necessary lessons. This will make for an easy transition if your child is asked to quarantine.
Securly Home Information
Securly Home is an app that allows parents to monitor their child’s Chromebook activity at home and add rules for home use. Please take some time to review the slideshow and recording of the parent meeting that took place on 9/16.
Reminders
Lunch Orders: Please remind your child that we need to order lunch for the next day. While we understand that sometimes it is a necessity to order on the day of, we ask that you review lunch choices so students are prepared to order one day ahead. Presently Chartwells is short staffed. Your understanding and cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Recess, Mask Breaks, and Outdoor Learning: With the colder weather approaching, we ask that students come to school with appropriate outdoor weather attire. We go out for recess, continue with our outdoor mask breaks, and head outside for learning as much as possible!
Pick Up: Pick up begins at 3:15. Be sure to have your placard visible. Please pull over to the side of Tallman Avenue to buckle up - this will help keep the line moving. If someone other than a parent is picking up, please let the main office know. Pick up ends at 3:30.
Thank you for your support in helping to make drop off and pick up run safely and efficiently.

If you are having issues accessing Aspen, you will have to email familyportal@portsmouthschoolsri.org with your child's name, date of birth, grade level, and your name. The system administrators will be able to restore access to your account and make sure that you can login.
