Mustang Minute 6/8
Tom McCall Upper Elementary Parent Newsletter
Sommer's Mustang Message
We are rounding the corner to the end of the 20-21 school year! This year has been filled with challenges on every level and I want to take a minute to appreciate the amazing work of our staff for their dedication to students and the incredibly difficult work of learning to shift everything they have learned and done in the past to teach and support students during this challenging time. Another big thank you to YOU, our families, for your patience, flexibility, and support, often it was your words of encouragement and appreciation that kept teachers pushing through the most difficult days.
We would like to take this opportunity to share that it is the hope and plan for our district to resume full-time, 5 days a week schedule for next school year. We will watch and follow the guidelines put out by the state in the Ready Schools Safe Learners (RSSL) to be updated this summer and all things point to this as a viable plan. The district will share more information about what this will look like at the end of the summer.
We are as excited you to resume a more typical schedule. Having said that I know that some families found Comprehensive Distance Learning to be a great fit for their family. If that is the case, we encourage you to check out our district's new online options, where your child will be connected to their home school while receiving instruction virtually. A form was sent out last week and can be found on the district website. Please help us share this information with families you know may be considering online options for next year.
Finally, keep a lookout for information coming soon around all the FREE awesome summer opportunities for students around the district. Both Tom McCall and Neil Armstrong have many options we are excited to share with the community soon!
Please don't hesitate to call the office at 503-359-2506 if you have questions.

End of Year "Reverse Parade" Celebration!
Together with the Tom McCall Parent Club, we are hosting a "Reverse Parade" to celebrate our amazing students and families.
Wednesday, June 16th
Drive-thru the Tom McCall Bus Loop
Anytime between 3-6pm
CLICK HERE TO COMPLETE THE REVERSE PARADE PERMISSION SLIP
A "Reverse Parade" is a drive-thru experience. Instead of a typical parade where spectators sit on the sidewalk and floats pass by, a "reverse parade" is where the floats are on the sidewalk and spectators drive by.
The staff in each "Zone" at Tom McCall will decorate their float and wave and cheer as families drive by. You can take pictures and see your awesome teachers being silly and having lots of fun!
Toward the end of the "parade", our Office "float" will collect Chromebooks and our Parent Club "float" will hand out T-shirts with the students Graduating class, commemorating this end to this once-in-a-lifetime year! Our Mustang Mascot will also be present for photo ops!
Our Parent Club had arranged for two food carts to attend Mr. Taco and Kona Shaved Ice will be parked in our West parking lot for anyone who would like to purchase food or a treat.
Since we know some families cannot get their child to our school due to work schedules or other conflicts we are providing busing for from the following locations: Cornelius Elementary, Fern Hill Elementary, Rose Grove Mobile Estates, Joseph Gale Elementary, and Harvey Clark Elementary. Please reach out to our Dean of Students, Rian Ford if these locations do not work for you. rford@fgsd.k12.or.us
