The Leader in Me
This month we think about Habit 4 'Think Win-Win'.
Principal's Message
There are many ways to describe how we are adapting to life as we work together to contain Covid19. I am proud of the staff and our community for their resilience and ingenuity when faced with the challenges of working together to support our students’ learning. A huge congratulations to everyone involved in our learning conferences this year! It was a challenge but we got there and I have received nothing but positive feedback from staff and our community. Well done!
Another challenge has been how to celebrate Education Week. This year’s theme ‘Learning together’ has highlighted the role each and every one of us plays in our students’ learning. Sadly we were unable to welcome our community onsite so we decided to take our learning out of the school and thank all those people in our lives who have helped us continue our learning no matter the challenge. All our class, staff and community videos are on our YouTube channel. I hope the letters home from your children were a nice surprise too!
I am pleased to advise that Mrs Kirkness was successful through merit selection for the position of Assistant Principal at Liverpool Public School. She has been relieving as Assistant Principal for a number of years and will continue working in her current role as Stage 3 supervisor.
Mrs Williams will be moving to Westfield Sports High School later this month. She has been with us for many years and has worked to support students with additional learning needs. We have also been privileged to draw on Mrs Williams’ sporting talents to continue providing a broad range of experiences for our students. We wish her well in her new role.
It was great to see so many parents and carers taking advantage of the special promotion on school zip fleece jackets last month. With 340 purchased I am looking forward to seeing all students in full school uniform. Thank you to Mrs Evangelista for negotiating with our uniform supplier to obtain the discount. Unfortunately our uniform standards have slipped a little this year so I will be taking more of an interest in student uniforms from next week.
Sadly I have been contacted recently by parents regarding road safety concerns. We regularly teach and remind students of road safety concepts but it is our parents and carers who ultimately model appropriate road safety behaviour. I have contacted Liverpool City Council to request more rangers in the area due to a number of near misses resulting from parents and carers double parking. Please ensure all road rules are followed when dropping off or picking up your children. Further information can be found on https://www.safetytown.com.au/ with resources to support road safety education.
Finally I appreciate the support of everyone in following our pick up system each afternoon. Some parents and carers have raised concerns about physical distancing and I remind all visitors of the requirement to maintain a minimum of 1.5m from each other. Please remember that the Moore Street gate is also open in the afternoon as an alternative entry and exit.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Ian Tapuska
Principal
Have you seen these notes and when are they due?
From the Deputy Principals - Mrs Alfaro and Mrs Vajdevski
Welcome back to Term 3. We trust you and your family had a relaxing break.
Learning Conferences
It was great to see so many parents and carers take part in our Zoom sessions to discuss your child's Semester 1 report. This year saw an increase in parents and carers booking online, as well as many accessing our interpreters. As always please do not hesitate to contact the school to discuss any matter with your child's class teacher.
Education Week Term 3 Week 3
Education Week is a annual state-wide event that celebrates the NSW public education community. This year, Education Week will run from Monday 3 August to Friday 7 August 2020 and the theme is Learning together.
It's a theme that reflects an incredible year for NSW public school students, staff and parents, and the partnerships that have been strengthened in response.
This Education Week, we embrace the whole NSW public education community, highlighting the achievements of local schools and the role of public schools as the cornerstone of their communities.
As a community we certainly have had to become highly responsive in learning new ways of 'Learning together'. We hope you received your personalised 'Thank you' letter from your child on Thursday. Each child has taken the time to write this letter to you for all your support during learning from home. We have sincerely loved 'learning together' with you all. Below are some photos of classes showcasing their letters. They are so proud of their wonderful journey. #EdWeek20
The Liverpool PS staff would also like to say a huge THANK YOU to all families for your wonderful work! https://youtu.be/QNt-myAV3Ss
Enjoy and we look forward to the day we can once again invite you onto our school site.
Yours sincerely,

Early Stage 1 News - Mrs Pritchard
What’s been happening in Kindergarten?
Last week Kindergarten celebrated 100 Days of Learning. We celebrated by having a Teddy Bears Picnic. The students had a lovely picnic lunch on the rugs in the Kindergarten area with the teachers. So many students had their own teddy bears to have a picnic with on the day. They were all very excited to show their bears and be together for lunch.

COVID-19 - Good Hygiene
The best way to protect yourself from COVID-19 is the same way you would protect yourself from catching flu or other respiratory illnesses. Remember there are simple steps to help stop the spread and good hygiene is in your hands. We have some pictures below to help stay safe during this time.
From the classroom - KE and Ms Ellis
In KE we studied the text, “The man who loved boxes” by Stephen Michael King. It is a story about a man who loves boxes. He has a son but has difficulty telling him how he feels. The man uses his love of boxes to show his son how much he loves him.
Some people were very unkind to the man but the man and his son both knew that they shared something special. We discussed:
• the different ways you can show your family that you love them
•that we need to be kind to others and accept differences
•that we are all special and unique
The students of KE then used their creativity and imagination to make a castle and a plane using boxes. The students had to work collaboratively to decide, design, problem solve and make their constructions.
As you can see from the photos they did an amazing job and are extremely proud of their efforts. Great work KE!

Learning and Support News (LaST)
As a parent of children who enjoy playing games on Playstation, I understand parents and carers frustration when your child is very interested in “gaming”! As a parent I worked with my children on a schedule of when they could/could not use the playstation and how long they could use it for.
I have listed a few tips and questions which you may like to consider when determining how long and how often your child spends on “gaming” at home.
The key questions when considering if gaming has become problematic are:
- Is gaming monitored and appropriately supervised?
- How does gaming impact family relationships and activities?
- How does gaming impact your child’s sleep and physical and emotional well-being?
- Does your child respond with aggression when limits are set around gaming?
- Is my child arriving to school feeling very tired and he/she are not fully engaging in school tasks?
- Is my child less interested in playing sport or talking with friends.
- Have my child’s eating habits changed.
While many parents feel powerless to address the impact of gaming in their family, there are some steps parents can take to achieve a healthy balance:
- Like any other aspect of a child’s life, gaming should not be a completely private activity
- Be informed about what games your child plays, being mindful of content and age classifications
- Show an interest in what your child is playing and even play with them from time to time
- Negotiate appropriate limits with your child around gaming
- Putting limits around gaming can be met with resistance so be prepared for how to manage this
