Hembree Highlights
April 23, 2021
Note from Mrs. Smith
I have A LOT of information today so the format will look more like a page from your high school notes.
Fulton County Board Decisions from 4/22:
FCS Project Vaccination 2021
Quarantine for the Fully Vaccinated
- Fully Vaccinated = the individual has received the 2nd of the two-dose vaccines (Moderna/Pfizer) or the (Johnson & Johnson). There must be 14 days since receiving the 2nd dose or the J&J.
- Fully vaccinated staff/students who are free of any COVID-19 symptoms do not need to quarantine if deemed in direct contact with a COVID-19 positive person.
Beginning Monday May 3, 2021:
- For outdoor activities only, masks will be recommended but not required for students in grades 9-12 and employees in high schools. All other safety protocols will remain in effect for this group of individuals.
- At school sponsored outdoor events and activities, masks will be recommended but not required for visitors/spectators.
- Capacity limitations are lifted on all outside school venues (stadiums, fields, etc.).
- Coaches may attend banquets.
Beginning on Monday May 17, 2021:
- While engaged in outdoor activities, masks will be recommended but not required for students in grades PK-8 and employees. All other safety protocols will remain in effect for this group of individuals.
- School Leaders, in consultation with their respective community support organizations, may schedule and host outdoor end of year celebrations to honor the achievements of students without restrictions on group sizes.
All other existing COVID-19 risk mitigation strategies will remain in place for the balance of the 2020-21 school year. This includes requiring all staff, students and visitors to wear a mask while inside an FCS facility, and adhere to recommended social distancing, surface sanitizing, and handwashing.
2021-2022 School Year:
- Face-to-face instruction will be the default option for all students. FCS will have two virtual options, the Fulton Academy of Virtual Excellence (F.A.V.E.) and the Fulton Virtual program.
- FAVE is a new, permanent virtual solution for students grades 3 – 11. The fall 2021 class is planned to accommodate 1,000 students. Grade 12 is planned for the following year. K-2 classes are not offered.
- The Fulton Virtual program is an online option for high school students, with some middle school offerings. These students remain enrolled in the currently districted school and may choose up to 3 online classes per semester through Fulton Virtual.
- The district will continue to monitor data and collaborate with healthcare officials from the Fulton County Board of Health, The Georgia Department of Public Health, and the Center for Disease Control to determine how best to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for students, staff and visitors. We are hopeful our communities will continue to experience a decline in Covid-19 cases and an increase in the percentage of the general population being fully vaccinated. We remain committed to informing and updating stakeholders as new guidance and recommendations are received.
So what were the highlights of all of that?
- Students will be able to take off their mask starting May 17, 2021 while they are outside.
- We will be having a 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony outside where parents can attend. Parents of 5th Graders, please be on the lookout for more communication.

Field Day
Field Day is going to happen, and we could not be more excited!
Field Day will be Friday, May 7th for both F2F and virtual students. We are asking that you pack a water bottle and an extra mask for the day. We are not going to sell t-shirts this year, but feel free to have your child wear a field day shirt from a past year or a yellow or blue shirt that day.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to have volunteers this year, but please check Twitter for pictures:

Darcey and Ollie's Bird Watching Academy
A huge thank you to the Amon family, and especially our students, Darcey & Ollie, for donating bird watching packets to our school. In 2019, Darcey & Ollie started a bird watching company for kids. Since then, the company has helped thousands of kids fall in love with bird watching and the outdoors. We are delighted to share their generous donation with all of our students.
To find out more about how to use the packet, please visit:

Our Hembree families can even access free lesson plans using the coupon code hembreehawks

From Our PTA
Your Voice Matters!
If you remember, we surveyed families at the beginning of the year as part of National PTA’s School of Excellence program. Our results demonstrated there was room for growth within the areas of “Supporting Student Success” and “Speaking Up for Every Child”. Based on your feedback about what we could do better, we developed two new Hembree initiatives, Ask PTA! sessions and advocacy initiatives. Thank you for using your voice to make Hembree even stronger!
As part of the School of Excellence program, we are required to survey our parents again. We will need to show growth and score improvement in order to be considered for this special designation. With this designation comes greater opportunity for grants and other programs to benefit all students at Hembree Springs. We hope that you all, our families, will have seen growth. It was most certainly our goal.
We need your voice; share what matters to you! Please take a few minutes to complete the School of Excellence Survey.
· English Survey: School of Excellence Survey
· Spanish Survey: la Encuesta de Escuela de Excelencia
Also, there are several open-ended questions at the end of the survey. We will use your answers to these questions in order to inform our work for the upcoming year. We’d love your input and suggestions.
Thanks again,
Lucy Gilbert
