Student Search Tips
Have Students Make Lists Before Starting a Search - Taking a few minutes to make a list of what students already know about a topic before searching will save them time and focus their search on only those resources that will have value to them. Here is a Google Doc that students can use for making their lists.
Have Students Generate Alternative Keywords for Searching - Synonyms of keywords found in the students' essential questions help students curate more relevant sources.
Have Students Conduct Boolean and "Exact Phrase" Searches- Using (and. or, not) and placing search terms inside quotation marks will deliver more relevant search results. Here is a worksheet that students can use for setting up keyword and Boolean Searches.
