Welcome Fall Harvest!
"Do not grow weary of doing good for at the proper time you will reap a harvest if you do not give up"
-Galatians 6:9
I encourage our De La Salle School community to take time this season to reflect on this message in the Bible and let us remember that no matter how challenging and overwhelming things may get or seem, perseverance and faith in the Lord will carry us through.
As we begin the season of fall we look ahead to all of the wonderful events we have planned within our school community to help us grow in faith, stewardship, and excellence. Please review this newsletter along with all email and flyer communications to stay up to date on each event. We look forward to a prosperous fall season at De La Salle School.
The Month of October
Month of the Holy Rosary
The best way to celebrate the Month of the Holy Rosary is to pray the rosary daily. The rosary is not only a vocal prayer but also a meditative prayer.
Prayer is a way to help us get in touch with God and to develop a relationship with him. In prayer we not only talk with God, but God communicates with us. As we continue to pray, our relationship with God grows.
Father Ramon will be working together with students and classroom teachers this month to discuss the rosary, its history, and prayers. I encourage you to also take time at home to pray the rosary together with your student(s) and family.
Breast Cancer Awareness
During the month of October, DLS students, faculty, and staff will join together to show their support and promote breast cancer awareness. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to show their support by wearing pink on Wednesdays.
Thank you to those who have purchased pink ribbons for $1 to help support Breast Cancer Awareness. The ribbons will be displayed in our hallways and throughout our school--these ribbons are a beautiful reminder of those who have been affected by this tragic disease and all proceeds will be donated to help find a cure.

Respect Life Week
[October 16-20]
Respect Life Week (RLW) is a joint project of the Department of Catholic Schools and the Office of Life, Justice and Peace. During RLW De La Salle students look at the current issues of forgiveness and healing through the lens of our Catholic faith. Students are invited, at a grade-appropriate level, to understand why we believe what we do and what we can do to build a Culture of Life right here in LA.
Through curriculum and prayer students grades TK-8 will reflect on the infinite love of Christ for each and every person.

The Great CA Shake Out
[October 19]
De La Salle School will participate in the annual Great CA Shakeout drill on Thursday, October 19th at 10:19A.M. It is part of our emergency preparedness program. Students, faculty, staff and parents will participate in the earthquake drill. Plans for student safety and care are made and this event allows us to provide a real time simulation and help us to best prepare for any emergency.
Red Ribbon Week
[October 23-27]
Red Ribbon Week (RRW) is an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign observed annually in October in the United States. Each year De La Salle School students, faculty, and staff join together and pledge to be drug free! A RRW flyer will be going home detailing information about the events of the week!

Closing
Thank you for the well wishes upon my maternity leave announcement (sent via grade link on September 26). We have been busy at the school preparing for this time and ensuring all accounts are in order. Your communication with faculty, staff, and your students is much appreciated during this time as it best ensures everyone continues to productively work together.
Please know that De La Salle School will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers during this time apart and I greatly look forward to hearing about the wonderful things happening at the school. Please recall that my maternity leave will begin Monday, October 16, 2017 and my plan is to return full-time on Monday, January 8th, 2018. May God continue to be with each and every one of you throughout this harvest and holiday season.
