Thoughts from Dr. Pacatte
It is that time of year!
"Monstrous storm could bring tornadoes, blizzard conditions to central US next week..." read the weather alert on my phone, last night. After reading the information, it appears as though we are currently not going to be impacted by this weather system in a way that would impact school. We are, however, approaching the time of year where the weather is very unpredictable and we could be dealing with a weather system that would require us to use an eLearning Day.
District 56 has used eLearning days when the weather prevents students from getting to and from school safely. Whenever possible, I try to make these decisions the night before, allowing parents to plan for their children being home. The district plans for eLearning Days can be found on our website. Teachers will have practiced eLearning with their students in class. While most of our students remember Remote Learning during COVID, our youngest students will certainly need a refresher.
If you are unclear about how to get things started, please reach out to your child's teacher for directions. We will be watching weather patterns closely through the coming months, and if we think there is a chance we would need to call off school, we will send all children home with their devices. If you are in need of support with the internet, please let your child's teacher know this as well.
It has been a lovely, mild start to the winter, here's hoping it stays that way!
