Dighton Rehoboth
Bill Runey, Superintendent-elect
March 23, 2022
Dear Dighton Rehoboth Community,
It is my pleasure to share that I have reached an agreement to become the next Superintendent of the Dighton Rehoboth Regional School District! I am both excited and honored to join you. I’m very grateful for the support of the School Committee and am very excited to hit the ground running in an effort to try to fill the big shoes Dr. Azar will leave behind. I will begin working with the current administration soon to start my transition so that I can learn as much as possible by the time I officially begin on July 1.
I consider myself to be very lucky. In my research and recent visits to your schools, I encountered warm environments with passionate staff and happy students. The data from surveys and testing shows that the schools in this district are places where staff and families are committed to the continued growth of all students, as they are our single most important resource.
It is my plan to be visible and approachable. Spending time in our schools, attending PTO meetings, and supporting events will help us get to know one another and build a sense of trust. I also pride myself on communication via social media, email, text, and traditional newsletters. I communicate transparently, clearly, and frequently and will expect that of all of our schools. It is my hope that, in short order, you will see and feel the passion that I have for being your next leader.
In education, it takes courage to make change. It is even more difficult when you are new to a district, but I pledge to listen to all stakeholders and keep what works while changing what is in our best interest as a community. In each of my administrative appointments, I’ve been able to bring a fresh perspective that could even determine blind spots in an already successful organization.
I can be reached at bruney@drregional.org, and if you would like to learn more about me, you can see material that I assembled for my interview on my website, BillRuney.com.
I can't wait to become a part of your community! I hope to meet you soon.
Bill Runey
