Weekly Update

Find out what's been happening in room 142!

This week in math we started a unit on fractions. Annie and Moby on BrainPop Jr. helped us learn about fractions of ONE whole and fractions of collections or sets. We also learned that fractions have to be equal parts or groups. On Friday, we started learning about fractions in a set. We will continue this in the upcoming week. After that we will learn about equivalent fractions and practice comparing fractions.

We Are Authors

The last few nonfiction books are being completed. After writing the book, each student filled out a self-assessment and had a friend read his/her book and complete a similar peer-assessment. We learned a lot from these reflections. The kids know what they did well and now have a few ideas for improving their writing in the future.

Country Research Project Update

Our class has been working very hard, researching a country of their choice. We have completed research on three topics. The next step is organizing the notes in order of importance. They will then use that information to create the final project.

Mrs. Polito also helped us document some of the steps of the project on Twitter! There is a link to her Ivy Hill LMC Twitter page on the "Important Links" tab. Two students from our class tweeted last week. Each LMC session we'll post more about our project. Our first two tweets are pictured below.
