NO SCHOOL January 17 or 18
January 17 is Martin Luther King Holiday and is a wonderful time for your family to choose a way to give back to your community. Start planning for a way to offer support for those around you or participate in a community event for positive change.
January 18 is an optional teacher work day.
Looking for ways to get involved at APS? We are looking for some virtual field trips to businesses. Showcase your job with a Google Meet with our students. Call 350-2900 and speak with Tima Williams or Lauren Graham to schedule an event.

WASH YOUR HANDS, WAIT AT A DISTANCE, WEAR A FACE COVERING
WASH YOUR HANDS, WAIT AT A DISTANCE, WEAR A FACE COVERING
We are helping to keep you safe by:
- using daily protocols for cleaning and sanitizing each room
- saying no to volunteers or guest speakers for now
- rescheduling field trips
You can:
- practice hand washing and mask wearing (on the nose and under the chin)
- keep students home when they have symptoms
- limit group gatherings to help limit the spread in your own neighborhood
THANKS for helping us keep it safe at APS. If your child is a close contact, you will be contacted with instructions on quarantining. If you are not asked to quarantine, your child can come to school as long as there are no symptoms. If you are asked to quarantine, your absences will be excused. If you choose to quarantine your family, the absence will not be excused (but we totally understand).
If you have any questions, please let us know.
A Message From the ACS Enrollment Team
First, I want to thank the families who were able to join us for Wednesday’s Enrollment Information Session. You asked thoughtful questions and gave us some additional items to consider as we look to support you and your family’s decision on school placement.
If you were unable to attend the meeting, a recording can be found here as well as a copy of the presentation I shared.
Current Kindergarten - 4th Grade School Selection Form
If your child is a current Asheville Primary Kindergarten - 4th Grader, please know that your family has the opportunity to complete your child’s School Selection Form now - Friday, February 25th. This form is how we will learn more about your school preference, as families will rank their school choices 1st through 5th for 2022-2023.
Additionally, please know the February 25th deadline will allow the enrollment team to assess the numbers and go before the Board of Education. At this time, our recommendation will be to give priority placement to APS students at the school of their choice before placing other students.
Current Pre-K School Selection
Current Asheville Primary Pre-K students will complete their applications for the 2022 - 2023 school year during the district’s regular open enrollment window. This year, open enrollment begins on February 7th and ends on March 14th. Additional information can be found here.
School Videos
To support your family’s selection process, videos that showcase each of our 2022 - 2023 elementary schools and highlight their unique magnet themes can be found here.
Family School Tours
Families are also invited to visit each of our five elementary schools during one of our Thursday Open Houses. They will occur from 3:30 - 6:30 PM on January 13th, 20th and 27th. At this time, they are scheduled to occur in person. If there are any updates, they will be promptly communicated.
Optional School Tours for Students
And, current Asheville Primary Kindergarten - 4th Graders will have the option to tour all five of our other elementary schools in person. Because of the rise in community spread, optional student tours have been postponed until Tuesday, February 1st. Your child’s teacher will be sending home a field trip permission form. Staff will accompany students on these tours.
Thank you for your support, and if you have any enrollment questions, please reach out to Tanya Presha by email at tanya.presha@acsgmail.net.
