Back to School Reminders:
As we return from Winter Break, I want to thank you in advance for supporting your child’s academic progress. We know that a predictable routine is critical to your child’s success in the Distance Learning model. Here are some tips on doing this:
1. Have a steady bedtime, to ensure 8-10 hours of sleep.
2. Provide a breakfast, prior to the live lessons.
3. Have school materials, readily available for your child to access.
4. Talk to your child about what they’re learning, ask about their assignments.
5. Encourage your child to read at least 20 minutes per day.
If you can work with us to establish and maintain the routine above, the impact to your child’s learning and social emotional well being will be tremendous! In this Distance Learning model, your partnership with teachers is not only greatly appreciated, but critical to our success model.
Please let your teacher or I know if there is anything you need support with, we are here for you.
Finally, on behalf of Horizon’s staff, I want to thank all parents / guardians for their diligent support of our students and the work we do for them. It is truly parents, teachers and staff partnering together that allows us to move forward under difficult circumstances. Again, please reach out to your teacher, my Administration Team, or me directly for anything. Your thoughts and feelings matter to us, and we’re here to support you. I look forward to seeing your child soon!
Martin Luther King, Jr. Virtual Assembly:
This month, we will celebrate an important civil right activist, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who helped shape our country to embrace and respect differences. Our Dean of Students, Mr. Lofthus, has been working with our staff and intermediate students on a virtual assembly.
Dr. King once declared, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that." Here at Horizon Elementary, we value all perspectives and the importance of speaking up. Your voice, and the voice of all our students helps us to learn, grow and improve our educational practices. Dr. King invited us to look to the light, to look to love in our quest to build a community where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. When you and your children engage with us, you add to this collective light that helps us continually build a more equitable learning environment. Dr. King’s reminder can be embraced by all of us!
