Get your walking shoes ready and turn those pledges in! Envelopes are due by WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 19! Remember that credit card pledges can be made online at the PTO’s convenient Transaction Center ( Our goal this year is to raise $18,000, which will be used to create a MAKER SPACE in the media center and to support ongoing PTO programs (such as One Book/One School, COSI on Wheels, author visits, homeroom parents, spring plant event and many other programs that our students love).

WALK-A-THON is Maple Dale’s FUN and HEALTHY fundraiser.

HEALTHY: Students and staff will be walking/jogging/skipping/dancing thousands of laps around the playground.

FUN: When each grade-level is finished walking, all students who have collected at least $51 will be “silly string-ing” a teacher! Spring Carnival tickets will be reserved for all students collecting $101-150. In each grade level, the classroom with the highest level of participation will get a pajama-popcorn party!

UPDATE: the classrooms leading in the competition to win a pajama-popcorn party are:

Preschool: tie between rooms 1 & 4 (Garrett PM & Battershell PM)

Kindergarten: room 5 (Howard)

First Grade: room 106 (Chaney)

Second Grade: room 206 (Klein)

Third Grade: room 306 (Thiel)

Fourth Grade: room 405 (Schulte)

Don't forget that we are still collecting gently used shoes for Free Store's "Back on Track" program. Please tie the laces (of your gently used children’s and adult’s shoes) together and bring them to the drop-off box in the cafeteria by WALK-A-THON day (October 20).

Winton Hills Academy - Our Sister School

Did you know that Maple Dale and Winton Hills Academy have been sister schools for 18+ years?

A few facts about Winton Hills:

  • Current enrollment is 380 students, preschool – 6th grade

  • 100% of their students qualify for free/reduced lunch

  • 4th-6th grades received an “A” rating in math and reading in 2014/2015.

  • Their building was built in 2005. It is beautiful, clean and bright, with fun paintings on the walls, smiles on children’s faces, and passionate teachers.

  • “We are giving the children the experience of a middle class school education in a lower class world. Then they can choose what they want for their lives.” Dr. Tina Russo, Principal 1998 -2015

What can you do to help?

  1. Please begin to save your out-grown hats, mittens, coats, boots. Any college gear is especially appreciated!! We would also love any extra Halloween Candy you are willing to share! We will collect all donations at Maple Dale during the weeks of November 1-4.

  2. Provide food and help create gifts for the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon.
