Tena koutou katoa nga mihi ki te whānau o te Kura o Ōtātara,

What a wonderful day the Fete was and, as usual, that wonderfulness can be attributed to so many factors that all aligned on the day. I have a very wise friend who always tells me that success in any endeavour is not about luck but through creating your own luck. So, with that in mind I wish to sincerely thank all of those that have put countless hours of organisation into the Fete, ensuring that each piece of the jigsaw fitted very well. For those that organise any event you will know exactly what I am talking about! It is those many hours, often performed behind the scenes that make the difference, that make the day seem so smooth and assist to make the day memorable.

I can add to that fabulous crew my thanks to those that rallied around on the day, or the days before, and put the finishing touches to the planning. It is that knowledge that we will have plenty of assistance that makes all of that hard mahi worthwhile. It was great seeing so many of our tamariki's whānau at the Fete in one capacity or another and what an opportunity to greet old friends and meet new ones. The weather played its part too, and I am sure that and the fact that we all probably needed such an outing helped drag in around 6000 people! What a huge turn out it was!

We need to be mindful that more and more schools are seeing a reduced PTA, or equivalent, for many reasons and that has a huge impact upon what schools can or cannot afford to do. From that perspective I am always grateful to those that give and who recognise that their contribution is both valued and valuable. And it is for that reason that we, as a community, need to continue to support our very own PTA as it is they who support all of the tamariki in our kura, not just their own. I would be incredibly disappointed if we lost our PTA as they perform that ever so important fund-raising as well as creating a situation where a local school community is galvanised into collaborative action. What a fantastic PTA we have! The proof? The number of events that they run, the financial strength they add to our kura and the fact that they raised a much needed $30 000 for our tamariki. Thank you all so so much!

What an amazing day at the Fete on Sunday!!! It was fantastic to see so many people from the wider community enjoying themselves.

Thank you to all those involved; who gave your time and energy into making this the best Fete yet.

Please place the following date into your diaries as our kura will be closed for the day as the staff will be involved in school wide Professional Learning around the upcoming school reports. This is an important day for us as it allows us to ensure that we are all on the same page, that our reports reflect what is important to the tamariki and that we have consistency around all that we do.

We have attached this day to the already existing long Labour Weekend as we felt that this might make life a little easier.

Afcare will be available on this day.

Hard case animal stories...

We had an extra visitor who nearly made it to the Village Fete last Sunday. There is a neat little green space on Ngarimu Crescent which leads to the Taipo Stream. Early in the morning a young fur seal had swum up the Taipo from Ahuriri and decided to check out what all of the fuss was about. He didn't quite make it to the fete but for those who made his acquaintance it was quite memorable!

We also have a mother duck who decided that the place of birth for her clutch would be TPS. We eagerly await the arrival of her ducklings at TPS...a bit reluctant to share where the nest is as Mrs Mallard is a tad shy and very protective. Perhaps we should run a Sweepstake to see how many ducklings we will be enrolling!

Every so often we have to remind you that it is not that clever to perform a U-Turn outside of the school, not that smart to park on the footpath and not that cool to ignore cars stopped at the crossing while you merrily tootle on through!

As we sometimes do, we get to the point where we involve the police and so please do not be offended in the next week or two if you are 'ticketed' for a breach of the traffic laws. Our ultimate aim is to ensure that our tamariki are as safe as they can be.

This should be your aim too!

We are in need of Parent Road Patrol volunteers for Puketapu Road on the following days.

Tuesday mornings - 8.20am - 8.45am

Wednesday afternoons - 2.50pm - 3.15pm

We are finding that with the changeable weather and the muddy field this time of year, it might be a great idea if your child comes home looking 'muddier' than when they left home, to include a spare named uniform in their bags each day. We have a limited supply of spare uniforms at school and many of these are not being returned to our kura. If you have some of those spare uniforms at home, please return them and, if possible, add more to our stash! We want our tamariki to be outside at breaks as often as we can.

If your child has medication at school please provide a measuring cup, spoon or syringe. This is especially important for day trips or sports events that are off-site as we do not supply these.

Just a wee reminder that in Term 4 all tamariki must wear hats when outside. Now is a good time to order them through the New Zealand Uniforms website or pop into The Warehouse and purchase a navy blue bucket hat. Please remember to name all of your child's uniforms, including the hats so they can be returned to the right student if misplaced.

Interschool Cross Country took place on Tuesday 20th September. TPS were represented by 48 talented runners who all put in an amazing effort. As a result of this TPS placed 2nd in the Napier and Districts Primary School Cross Country Overall School event for 2022. Other placings were; Blake Bewick 2nd individual in the Year 3 boys competition. First place in the Team Event for the Year 4 boys, Third place in the Team Event for the Year 4 Girls and Third place in the Team Event for the Year 6 girls. Congratulations to all of the tamariki who took place, you represented our school incredibly well. The runners who placed in the top 20 of their individual year group race will go on to represent TPS at the HB Interschool competition next Tuesday.

Next Wednesday we are lucky enough to have the NZ Playhouse performing to us. This is a group of very talented actors who always delight their audiences with a fun production. This year it is 'The Emperor's New Clothes'.

If your child is at school on this day $4.75 will be charged to their school account.

Our fabulous team participated in the Hawkes Bay Lit Quiz earlier this month. They had to compete against Intermediate and Primary School teams from around Hawkes Bay answering questions about books and authors. A huge congratulations to Olivia Coulthard, Ollie Robson, Kahurangi Robinson and Sylvie Rope who came first in the Primary School Competition.

David Walliams, a very popular author in our TPS Library has sold 50 million books worldwide. To celebrate, Harper Collins, his publisher, had a competition for 50 schools around the world to win 50 of his books to celebrate. We were one of the lucky ones chosen! A huge thank you to Harper Collins. Our tamariki will love this prize!
