MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Dear Students, Families, and Staff:
District administrators and I have been observing the COVID-19 transmission and testing rates in both Franklin and Fairfield counties. The case and testing numbers are increasing daily, prompting us to reconsider our district masking policy.
Per Board Policy 8540.01 the Superintendent may require all school staff, volunteers and visitors to wear appropriate face masks/coverings on school grounds.
Effective August 16, 2021, PLSD will follow the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the Ohio Department of Health’s guidance for face mask use in our district. All K-6th grade students will be required to wear a mask indoors during the school day. They may remove their mask while eating and during recess. Students in grades 7-12 are welcomed and strongly encouraged to wear masks during the school day to decrease the transmission of the COVID-19 virus.
All students will be required to wear masks while using school transportation at all times. This is mandated per the CDC and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Directive (SD) 1582/84-21-01. This directive includes students using school transportation for sporting events or extracurricular activities.
Masks are welcomed and strongly recommended for teachers and staff and are required for everyone who is unvaccinated.

Related Arts Schedule
This year the elementary buildings are operating on an A-E schedule. The biggest thing that this impacts is the related arts schedule. In previous years, you may have been prepared on a certain day each week for your child to wear their gym shoes for PE. However, this year, they need to be prepared on a certain letter to wear the appropriate shoes. For example, a student will no longer be scheduled to have PE on Tuesday. They will be scheduled to have gym on C day. Here is the the A-E calendar for this school year. Please ask your student or their teacher which day they have gym, so that you can plan shoes accordingly.

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE
Absensces/Late Arrival/Early Dismissal/End of Day Changes
Please call the school office if your child is going to be absent or late. State law requires a daily check of students who are absent. A 24-hour answering machine is available to receive absence or tardy calls. Please use this machine for all calls after 4:30 p.m. and before 8:30 a.m. The phone number is 614-548-1400, option 1. Thank you for helping us comply with the state requirements.
- If your child is going to be late, please call the school office. When you do bring your child to school, please scan the QR code on the window and fill out the form.
- If you need to pick up your child early, please send a note to your child's teacher. When you arrive to pick up your student please scan the QR code on the window and fill out the form. The office staff will call your student down and come out to check ID.
- If you need to make a change to your student's normal end of day dismissal, please contact the school office before 3:00pm and we will inform your child of any changes in arrangements.
Emergency Contact Cards
Don't forget to fill out your Emergency contact card. The cards were available to parents at the "Peek at Pick" and sent home on the first day of school.
The school fees for the 2021-2022 school year are listed below. You may pay online in Infinite Campus or send a check with your student to school. Please make sure it is clearly marked with your student's name and teacher and indicate that it is for student fees. Checks should be made payable to PLSD.

MS. STEWART'S COUNSELOR CORNER
BBBS Bowl for Kids' Sake
Big Brothers Big Sisters has set up a Pickerington Bowl for Kids’ Sake event for September 18th and 19th. They are looking for teacher/school teams to fill the lanes. BBBS has a traveling trophy for the school that brings the most teams and one for the person that raises the most money. The Team Packet is attached. All money raised will support the school-based program in Pickerington. There is also a website for teams to sign up and raise money. They can even raise money on their social media if they are not going to bowl as well as a place for virtual bowlers to just raise funds. If you have any questions, please contact Jolyn Pugh.
NEWS FROM THE NURSE
ADMINISTERING MEDICATION AT SCHOOL
In the event your child needs to take prescription medication while at school, the Request for Administration of Medication by School Personnel form must be completed by the child’s physician and parents.
Nonprescription medication such as Advil, Tylenol, cough drops, etc. may be administered to students if the parent/guardian brings in the medication along with written permission for the medication to be given. All medications must be sent in the original container. Dosages cannot exceed the manufacturer’s recommendations for age and weight. We must have a note from the doctor to give a dose of medication that is different from the dose stated on the bottle.
***Both prescription and nonprescription medications must be brought to the school by a parent or guardian. You can drop off medications during “Peek at Pick” on August 13th, or you can make arrangements by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
CHANGE OF CLOTHING
There may be times when your student has to come to the clinic and receive a change of clothing. If your child comes home in a different outfit, please wash it and return it to school the next day. We are low on extra clothing and would like to make sure we can accommodate students when needed.
