Freshman Notes for November
What can a freshman do to get ready to apply to college? Although it may seem like a long ways away, it will be here before you know it. There are some steps freshmen can begin taking to get themselves ready for applying to college. Some suggestions are:
- Create an academic plan. Challenge yourself by taking the hardest classes you can handle. Most importantly, GET GOOD GRADES. If there is a subject you are weak in access help now.
- Begin a college savings plan. Work and if possible save half of everything you earn.
- Start building your vocabulary by reading everything you can. Use new words when you talk and challenge yourself to learn new words every day.
- Hone your writing skills. Read comments on papers and seek advice.
- Stretch your comfort zone. Identify clubs, organizations, and groups to become active in and become a leader in areas of interest to you.
- Discuss the family budget. Is there a plan in place?
- It is never too soon to start looking for honors or scholarships at colleges. Visit our website http://avondaleacademycounseling.weebly.com/financial-aidscholarships.html to learn more.
