Weekly Update 4.24.2020
Joan MacQueen Middle School
Principal Message
Good Afternoon Dust Devils,
Kudos to our teachers and students who each day are showing improvement at learning online. As we move forward, we want to continue to refine our work and your feedback is a crucial component. Please share with us your thoughts on how we can improve the quality of the education we are providing. Click here to send me your feedback.
This week I spent time in each of our advisory classes, and I could not be more pleased with what I experienced. Although not everyone is fully awake at 9:00 am, students are excited to see their friends while also being attentive and engaged in learning. Our average District attendance rate was approximately 90%. At our current rate of progression, I can't wait to see what we will accomplish by June.
Many have asked about picking items that students left in their Physical Education lockers. We are developing a plan to remove and return those items to their owners. We will be sharing more details in the near future.
We are still in the process of activating Gmail accounts for those who have returned the Responsible Use Form. We appreciate your patience.
Lastly, we want to remind everyone to give yourself some grace. We have heard that some students might feel overwhelmed with the workload. Classwork is posted on Mondays for the week, but remember, not all assignments are mandatory. Students should be selecting one or two primary assignments in each of the core content areas. Should your child want to explore more of the posted assignments, they are welcome to continue to extend their learning by completing additional posted options.
Please stay safe and have a wonderful weekend.

AUSD Student Services
If you need Social-Emotional support for your child, please look at the AUSD Student Services page or reach out to any of the following individuals who will answer your question or contact a team member to support your child.
Zoom Guidelines
You might have heard horror stories about online teaching sessions being "Bombed". I am proud to say that your kids have been amazingly respectful. We have specific protools for staff to use with Zoom and all video platforms. As a team, we feel that visual contact with their peers and friends is a vital component of their well being. The JMMS staff has done a phenomenal job of learning how to implement the new technology.
JMMS Virtual Office Hours
If you need any assistance with any administrative questions such as enrollment or field trip reimbursement, please reach out to either of our amazing Administrative Assistants who are available via email or to schedule a virtual meeting between 9 am and 1 pm.

Online Learning Tip Week Two: Find a Quiet Space
Create a space of peace. Pick a time during the day or a corner of the house where you can relax and study. YDesignate an area that is free of distraction. When diversions are present, it may reflect in poor quality of work; hindering your education. Discussing your "quiet zone" with your family or friends may be beneficial as well so they understand that your time is crucial to your academic success.
