School Communication Survey
Many thanks to the 135 families who completed our school communication survey. Over 90% of parents felt that both seesaw and email were an effective way to feel connected with their child's teacher. 90% felt information provided about Covid cases has been timely and informative, 76% follow the school on Facebook, 55% of respondents wanted a monthly newsletter; 43% were happy with eNews.
Based on this feedback we will :
- Continue to use Seesaw and Email for communication between teachers and parents.
- Encourage families to check the calendar on the school website for updated communication.
- Continue with eNews on the 4th Thursday of each month and introduce a monthly newsletter on the 2nd Thursday of the month.
Farewell Mr Noseda
Mother’s Day Event
It was lovely to welcome all the Mums and mother figures to school last Friday to enjoy a coffee and a bite to eat with their children. The opportunity to visit classrooms was welcomed by the parents. Many thanks to the P& F and fathers who assisted with set up and pack up on the day. Thank you also to the Year 5 parents who ran the Mother's Day gift stall. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to choose a gift for the special females in their lives. We hope you all had a lovely day on Sunday.
Drive Through
To make our pickup in the afternoons more streamline we ask that those using the Church drive through uses both lanes. The family surname on the dash helps with getting children in the cars efficiently. If you have misplaced or lost your name, please advise the office and we will make you a new one. We also request that parents stay in the car and we will bring the children to you.
In the top car park cars turning right need to be in the right-hand lane and those turning left the left hand lane.
COVID
Our absentees this week have hovered around 110 students. Thank you to all our families who have been uploading their child’s RAT or PCR results to the school COVID link. This has enabled us to track positive cases here at St Luke’s. Please be aware that this link is in addition to reporting to the Healthy WA website. Your first responsibility is to notify a COVID positive result via the Healthy WA website https://www.healthywa.wa.gov.au/ratregister followed by alerting us via
https://cewa-collections.powerappsportals.com/COVID-19-Self-Reporting-Form/
This link can also be found on our website (www.stlukeswoodvale.wa.edu.au). Thank you for your continued support with this requirement.
RATs will be available for collection next week for each family. Details will come out via sms

MESSAGE FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS
Month of Mary
In the month of May, we learn about and remember Mary, the mother of God in a special way.
Why is May the month of Mary?
Traditionally, Catholics devote the whole month of May to celebrating and honouring Mary, the mother of Jesus. Mary is even sometimes known as the ‘Queen of May’. There is even a ‘May Crowning’, where an image or statue of Mary is crowned, sometimes with flowers.
Our school children will be involved in praying the Rosary during the Month of May.
Here are some resources to assist families at home when talking about Mary, the mother of Jesus and praying the Rosary.

Blessing of our Prayer Garden
This morning we were blessed with Fr Stephen who was able to bless our new prayer garden and memorial garden.
We are ever so grateful for the families who attended. The butterflies were added yesterday, and each butterfly represents someone who has been granted the gift of eternal life. The space is open to all students and staff, as well as the parish community. Please visit our prayer garden when visiting the school.
Thanks go to:
- Fr Stephen for coordinating the blessing.
- Linzi Carter for the beautiful and creative artwork in the prayer garden space. We are truly blessed to have the input of an incredibly talented young lady.
- John Moth and Project 360 for the creations of the butterflies.
- Neville Hogan for the hard labour in the planting of the plants and trees and installation of the benches. Your commitment and ongoing dedication to the space is recognised and gratefully acknowledged.
- The P&F team for providing the funds for the turf and the benches to be installed in the prayer garden space
- Oggi Stonecraft for the beautiful addition of the angel and Mother Mary statue to the garden.
Linzi Carter - Mural Artist
Linzi has been invited to meet the students and talk about her vocation at an upcoming assembly. Thank you, Linzi, for sharing your gift with the community of St Luke's Catholic Primary. More of her work can be seen on her website here: https://www.linzicarter.com/
NAPLAN
NAPLAN assesses fundamental skills in literacy and numeracy that are developed over time through the school curriculum, rather than specific content. It is not a pass-or-fail type test, for which students can study or drill, but rather shows how students are progressing in numeracy and literacy skills against national standards for all Australian children. It also provides information that allows schools and governments to better target efforts to help all students achieve their potential and acquire the basic skills to help them build successful lives.
More information is available at www.nap.edu.au
Please note that students who are absent will have the opportunity to catch up next week.

Seasons For Growth Program
At St Luke’s we understand that from time to time children and families experience
significant change and loss in their lives. This can be brought about by major illness of
a family member, separation or divorce of parents, death of a loved one, moves from
interstate or overseas and so on. Children can benefit from learning how to manage
these major life changes.
Seasons for Growth program is a successful education program that helps children to
address feelings and issues associated with grief and loss and provides opportunities to
develop coping strategies to support them through this difficult time.
