Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Information
Application Deadline: November 6, 2018
Attention: District Superintendents, Principals (for grades 5-12), and District Public Information Officers
Today through November 6, 2018, The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards is looking for South Carolina’s top youth volunteers of the year. Students in grades 5-12 are invited to apply for the 2019 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards if they have made meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service within the past 12 months. The application is available to submit through Tuesday, November 6, 2018. Click on the attached link: http://spirit.prudential.com and www.nassp.org/spirit.
This year marks the 24th year of honoring youth volunteers. The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), was created in 1995 to recognize the exemplary volunteer work of middle and high school students. We ask that you carefully review the attached document to learn how you can assist your students in applying for this prestigious award.
On February 5, 2019, the top middle level and high school volunteer from each state and the District of Columbia will be named as State Honorees. They will receive $1,000, an engraved silver medallion and an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., with a parent or legal guardian for four days of recognition award events. This event is scheduled for May 4-7, 2019.
While in Washington, the national selection committee will name 10 of the 102 State Honorees as America’s top youth volunteers of the year. These National Honorees will receive additional awards of $5,000, a gold medallion, a crystal trophy for their nominating school or organization, and a $5,000 grant from The Prudential Foundation for nonprofit charitable organizations of their choice.
It is an extreme honor to recognize South Carolina’s middle level and high school students who are making a difference through volunteer service in their communities. Please share this information with the appropriate school district and school staff so that your students will have an opportunity to be considered for such an outstanding award. Remember the application deadline is fast approaching – Tuesday, November 6.
Should you have any specific questions regarding this award, please contact Harold Banks, Prudential at Harold.banks@prudential.com or via phone at 973 802 8974.

Shoe Drive - We are still collecting gently used shoes in our main lobby for Fort Mill High School Marching Band.
The Fort Mill High School Band, https://www.fortmillhsband.com/, is conducting a shoe drive fundraiser on September 20 to November 21, 2018 to raise funds for the Band’s trip to the Harrogate Music Festival in England in April 2019. Fort Mill is proud to be one of the select bands from around the world invited to perform. The Fort Mill Band will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes collected, in collaboration with an organization called Funds2Orgs. Those dollars will be used to ship instruments and uniforms to England for the festival.
