All Saints Outreach News
April
But April also brings Easter and the joyous hope of the Resurrection. I have found hope in the continued generosity and prayers of this community. I see Him in the way you've responded. Thank you for those blessings!
Summer Food Drive (in April!)
Fellow Parishioners,
I am writing this letter in such a strange time for our world – with the “shut down” of any – and all social gatherings and the closing of many businesses. This is also a time of need for the neediest in our community – the school age (and younger) children.
For the past two years, a group of us at All Saints Catholic Church have partnered with several other churches in the Puyallup area to distribute food to families with school age (and younger) children. With this program we have provided much needed food for these children during the summer months while school was on summer break.
This year, as you know, is quite different. Not only do we have the children we would normally serve – but now with the economic conditions of a lot of out-of-work parents – we anticipate more families needing food. With school closures, the faith based group supporting this program along with Community in Schools (CIS) has determined we need to start earlier - in early May. In past years, the parish Summer Food Drive has provided the majority of food required for this program. Therefore, we are having our drive earlier.
For a two week period starting April 20 thru May 3 (Monday through Sunday) – 11 AM to 12:30 PM and 5 PM to 6 PM, we will have our food bank storage garage open (in the alley to the left of the parish office) to receive donations. See the list below for needed items. In order to follow the medical guidelines of social distancing there will be a table set up for donations. If you prefer, you can also drive up, open your trunk, and the person there will get your donation out of your car for you.
If you cannot make it out to the store, please consider giving online at allsaintsparish.com/giving/support-outreach or sending in a check to the parish office made payable to All Saints Community Services (memo: Summer Food Program).
We understand if your family may be struggling financially during this time. If that is the case, please know our prayers are with you and ask for your prayers to end hunger in our community and world.
Thank you for your ongoing support of this and other programs at All Saints. We are so blessed to have such a generous and loving parish community.
Sincerely,
Mike Melvin, Summer Food Program Volunteer
