Help us celebrate Bullying Prevention Week at Deerfield!

WHAT IS BULLYING? The answer to this question can sometimes be very confusing. The 3 main pieces of a behavior that is considered to be bullying behavior includes: usually (but not always) repeated, intentionally aggressive or unwanted behaviors, and there is a real or perceived imbalance of power. Here are a few links to help with defining what bullying is and how to help our students deal with bullying situations:

USD497 Annual Elementary Art Show

The following students have been selected to represent Deerfield Elementary School in the USD 497 Annual Elementary Art Show held at the Lawrence Public Library from October 1 - October 29:

Madeline Paul, Kat Davis, Caeden Carter, Harper Peterson, Emery Ernst, Rosella Bentancourt, Gwyneth Lee, Lily Weiss, Landry Wilson, Berklee Wilcox, Sam Miller, Shirley Howard, Tommy Hussa, Ben Swartzlander, Natalie Perez, Bennett Meikle, Vera Dorssom, Avery Donahey, and Kali Johnson.

Congratulations to these amazing young artists!

REMINDER: Covid Close Contact Notification

If you do not receive direct notification to quarantine, your student is not a close contact or at risk of exposure. Families may find a list of reported COVID-19 cases and Lawrence Public Schools' COVID-19 prevention measures at www.usd497.org/COVID19.

Please also note that the Kansas Legislature passed House Bill 2134 in May, and the Governor signed it into law. This law limits remote learning in public schools. Our teachers will provide homework assignments for students who are absent due to illness or a quarantine order from the health department, but there will be no remote learning at this time. Your classroom teacher will be in contact with parents with directions on obtaining homework.

Change Maker of the Week:

Our goal is for students to see themselves in our change makers and to also learn that they can do anything they put their mind to. Another goal is for our students to see people who are unfamiliar to them, to grow in empathy, and push for justice for the inequalities that marginalized communities face.
