Jack Anderson Elementary

Biggest Fundraiser of the Year!
TONS of work goes into the preparation, the actual events, and then all of the work that comes afterward, but it is worth it! All hands are on deck to ensure that everyone has a great time at the events, but also that our students reap HUGE rewards!
With the proceeds the school receives we will update/add additional technology, purchase materials for the greenhouse, and add additional items to our Mobile Makerspace. Depending on the total raised, other dreams may become reality!
Thank you for supporting Jack Anderson Elementary!

Last Week's STEM Visitors
They truly enjoyed visiting classrooms, hanging out with third graders in the STEM lab, seeing our Mobile Makerspace, scanning QR codes to see student videos, and touring the building. We began the tour with an introduction and closed with a question and answer session.
Following the tour, Mrs. Thurston and I went to Union Elementary School for a Sumner County STEM School panel where we joined representatives from UES, WBES, and OES to answer questions from a group of about sixty people. The Middle TN STEM Hub group was there as well as members of the TSIN Rural STEM Collaborative.
Currently there are four SCS STEM schools, but that number is growing! It is incredibly exciting to see STEM spreading across the state. Mr. Thurman and I are part of the Innovative Leaders Institute this year. One of the things that we love MOST about this opportunity is that we get to visit other STEM schools and network with other leaders. Additionally, I have just begun serving with seven other administrators on the Tennessee STEM Leadership Council. In this role, I am able to assist teachers and leaders in the effective implementation of STEM practices. I will also help to support the goals of Tennessee STEM with the TDOE and the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network.
Greenhouse Update
As soon as the company completes construction of a greenhouse at WHHS, they will begin working on our project. It will have gas heat, electricity, and water!
The building was purchased by Jags Treehouse. The students will have access to the greenhouse during the before and after school program but also the summer camp program will be able to oversee the plants. Thank you, Jags Treehouse!!!!
There will be an additional cost for tables, racks, hoses, tools, and planting materials. I will keep you posted as the building and garden start growing!
