Campus Update - Volume 21 - Jan 23, 2023

Charger Spirit is Thriving!
Chargers,
Last Friday at around noon I looked at what was ahead and the list for sports, clubs, and campus activities was likely the most we've had all year. There are so many things going on around campus involving so many of you. Big shout out and congratulations to our entire Mamma Mia cast for four outstanding performances. I, along with an almost sold out crowd every night left so impressed with your talent. We have seen you rehearse for months, brighten up our campus with energy and fun in anticipation for the show, and it was so great to see your hard work pay off.
Our musical was not the only thing that happened this weekend. Our basketball teams took on Veteran's Memorial as they continue their successful seasons, our football team finished their grueling boot camp and on Friday, Colin Breuer and Emma Haines won the district diving championship. On Saturday our swim teem brought home a district championship setting many pool records (listed below). Saturday’s activities did not end there as our CHS Tennis team held their annual family fundraiser. I had a chance to stop by and it was a great atmosphere and environment with friendly competition.
Boys and girls soccer is rolling and baseball and softball will start very soon. Another big shout out to Cheer who had a great performance at state finishing as one of the top 15 teams out of over 80 schools competing. Debate is prepping to host a tournament here at CHS next week and JROTC is getting fancied up for their military ball on Saturday.
Between all that and in addition to our clubs that meet regularly, STUCO, NHS, FCCLA, and everyone else that puts that Charger logo on to represent your school, know that we are so proud of you for making Charger spirit thrive. Keep up the great work, continue to grow, and stay focused on your goals.
Lots of pictures and updates below for your review.
Wishing you a wonderful, productive week.
Go Chargers!

From our Counselors
SAT School Day
CHS will be offering the SAT on March 1st during the school day. All juniors are registered and will test for free. Seniors are allowed to register to take the SAT that day as well.
If you have a senior that would like to take the test, please have them complete the registration via here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe0OzX775xC-awtNyz9B_Asuxj-a58KIqqZYn6QOlc-UCLtNw/viewform
They will also need to pay via Rev Trac. The deadline to register is Jan. 27th and the fee is $60.
Dual Credit
We will be TSI testing for Dual Credit Eligibility next week in the library. Students should have already completed their college application, TSI registration, TSI Pre-Assessment Activity, and turned in payment to Mrs. Gonzalez to be on the testing list. If you have not started the dual credit application process for next year OR missed the testing window for next week, please get with your counselors ASAP. The final deadline is quickly approaching.
FAFSA REQUIRMENT FOR GRADUATING SENIORS
The 2023-2024 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opened on October 01 FOR SENIORS ONLY. Completing the FAFSA or submitting a formal opt out form is a Texas state graduation requirement. You can find out more on the CHS Counseling website or at the tea.texas.gov site When filling out, students will enter Champion High School as their current high school, and we will receive a notification they are complete. If you choose to do an opt out form, please submit to the counseling office.
Course Selection
Course Selection for the 2023-2024 School Year kick off with our annual Choice Days on January 31 & February 01. Teachers will be speaking with all students about what courses come next in their content areas and which might be the right fit for each student. Please login to your Choices360 account and check your current plan before we start! Students may need to reset their passwords using the “forgot password” link before counselors visit English classrooms in February. More information about Choice Days and the Course Selection Process will be sent via email next week.
TSI Opportunities
Many seniors are inquiring about taking the TSI on campus to fulfill their college TSI requirement. We will be offering an opportunity to both Juniors (for CCMR completion) and seniors to take the TSI after spring break. You can also exempt from taking the TSI if you score high enough on an ACT or SAT. Juniors you will be taking the SAT on campus in March. Seniors: even if you did not use your SAT scores for admissions, you can send them in now to fulfill your college TSI requirement. Reach out to your counselor if you have questions.
