Now it is time for our PBIS vocabulary game….. WORDS WITH FRACULTY
WORDS WITH FRACULTY! This week’s intellectually snobbish, impractical, obsolete, and vacuous word will be stated on the announcements. Students will be challenged to use the word in its proper context per the appropriate content area to gain prexie love in their classes.
THIS WEEKS WORD: Abhor - to hate
Great News - Mail Chimp is Here!
Mail Chimp is our amazing new platform for sharing great news with our GW families. Ms. Barnes and I have been trained and have been sharing the great news from your classrooms highlighting filed trips, performances, PBIS activities as well as teaching and learning that occurs routinely around our school! The platform is great. Once a newsletter is complete, we simply hit “send” and all GW families with an email in PowerSchool receive our good news.
Thank you to everyone for your contributions…..KEEP THEM COMING! You are doing great work with our students and the parental feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
Thank you!
PROFESSIONAL LEARNING – NOVEMBER 3
Click here to sign-up for the session of your choice. Those who have not chosen by the end of the day on Monday will be assigned to a session. https://goo.gl/LcjPxN
1) Schoolnet Work Session: Library
Want to know how your students’ performed on the SOL’s? Want to learn your students' strengths and weaknesses? Want to group your students based on their learning needs? SchoolNet can do all that!
Create an assessment in SchoolNet that targets specific SOL strands or create an assessment that looks like the SOL test. SchoolNet can do that too.
Come to the SchoolNet work session and we'll help you do this.
2) Google Drive, Forms - Tips and Tricks: C123
You have a Google Drive account, now what? Google Drive has lots of great features, we will highlight many of these for you. Learn tips and tricks for creating, managing and sharing files in Google Drive. Learn to safely share your Google Drive files with coworkers and more.
Google Forms are an awesome tool that can be used in many different ways. Google forms can simplify data collection, testing and grading. Learn to use a Google form for gathering information, assessing your students, tracking completed work and more.
3) Writing: Summarizing versus Reflection: A346
As a school the adoption of AVID strategies is taking off and the impact on student learning is reflected in your terrific adaptation or refinement of these practices. In this section we will continue to enhance our use of Cornell Notes by comparing the benefits of using a Summarizing Strategy versus a Reflection Strategy with our students. We will examine the finer points relative to What content goals are you intending to accomplish when applying these two strategies, Where and When they should be applied. Why these strategies should be applied. Please bring a couple student samples of Cornell Notes to analyze.

Kudos to…
- ALL Teachers for successful Parent Teacher Conferences thank you for your dedication to our students and their families.
- Mr. Olmstead and Ms. Boyle for taking over Science Department responsibilities.
- Ms. Currie-Boyd, Frau Connolly & Mr. Bowler for having their classes taped for the ACPS 2020 launch.
- Ms. Barnes for great work with Prexie Press.
- Ms. Detweiler for a fantastic first edition of the George Washington Post http://gwpnewspaper.wix.com/georgewashingtonpost.
HALLWAY SUPPORT AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Please, please, please be a present force in the hallways during ALL passing periods. We need to perform as a unified team in this respect. The power of the many is what makes transitions smooth and orderly. Simply put, we cannot do this alone.
PBIS - November Pillar is INTEGRITY!
COOL TOOL to be sent out in your email, this lesson will take more than one homeroom period, it’s important, make time for it. We will have a quiz on RESPECT and take a survey for the first school-wide activity.
Restorative Justice
This week Ms. Detweiler's 7th period partook in a circle, each student made a commitment to own their behavior and to be part of the solution in the classroom.
