Clipper Family Connection
Sturgeon Bay High School Newsletter
October 2023
From the Principal
Hello Sturgeon Bay High School Families,
It is already October! We have Family/Teacher Conferences coming up on Thursday, October 12 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm. You should have received a sign up email from your child's teacher. Please join us for conferences as this is a great chance to talk to how your child is doing in the classroom this year.
We also have our first Senior Class Meeting on Monday, October 9 for students. Our representative from Josten's will be meeting with all seniors to go over cap and gown orders and other important information about graduation.
We also have our annual Manufacturing Day in Door County on Thursday, October 12. All sophomore students will participate in this field trip. This is a county wide opportunity for students to visit and tour local manufacturing companies right here in Door County. Mrs. O'Handley sent a communication home to all sophomore families.
Students will be receiving their school pictures in the next week. Please take a look as we will have our retake day on Thursday, October 19.
And finally, a reminder that we have no school for students on October 26 and October 27 and the first quarter of the school year ends with exams on November 6 and 7.
Thank you for your continued support of Sturgeon Bay High School.
All my best,
Keith Nerby
Principal

CLIPPER NATION STUDENT RECOGNITION PROJECT
Last year at Sturgeon Bay High School we began a new program to recognize the growth of our students personally and academically. The program is called Clipper Nation. Each week, teachers nominate students for their growth and students get a certificate from the teacher recognizing them and their name gets entered into a drawing for prizes. Each week we select 7 students to win a prize. Prizes such as a $10 gas gift card, movie passes, mini golf passes, chips and a Bubbler, a Culver's ice cream, a Mc Donald's or Jimmy John's sandwich (basically, "things teenagers love for a treat") are given out and appreciated. Students are recognized on the Friday announcements. We celebrate being kind, helpful, hardworking, demonstrating growth mindset and academic growth. These are all qualities we feel would be helpful beyond high school and make our school a better place.
We need your help!! If your family would like to sponsor a weekly prize for 7 students, we would be grateful as this is an unbudgeted program relying on the generosity of our community. Please contact Mrs. Hintz via email if you would like to help. Her email is hhintz@sbsdmail.net . Any of the above-mentioned ideas would be appreciated. We also welcome cash or other options as well. We need 7 items to host a week. We do recognize area businesses on the announcements and will be adding it to our website soon.
Special thanks to the following businesses who have donated last year:
- Culver's of Sturgeon Bay
- Door County Medical Center
- Door County YMCA
- Peninsula Podiatry, Dr. Burkart

Cell Phone Expectations
We understand that cell phones and similar items are a way of life for many students and families. We also need to help teach our students when it is appropriate and not to use these devices. We thank you in advance for your partnership as we work to help students focus on academics and learning in the classrooms.
