StMCS News & Notes
From the Desk of Mrs. Haller, Principal
Great Start to the Year!
What a wonderful first week! While the rain was a bummer on Tuesday, we feel incredibly blessed by the sunshine and fall temps that have followed. Everyone’s first day smiles more than made up for the gloomy skies!
While the parking lot has been a busy place morning and afternoon, all is moving along smoothly. The pace picks up each day thanks to everyone's cooperation following our instructions.
We loved seeing many first day photos on our school Facebook page! Congratulations to the Nigon family, winner of a $20 credit to our school Spirit Store for posting to the first day photo challenge! https://www.facebook.com/StMCSStMichael/posts/1949805011707945
Follow us on Facebook if you'd like to participate in future opportunities like this one.
Joy to you & yours,
Mrs. Haller
Improving Communication & Reducing Paper
Each Thursday, we send home a red school folder called the "Family Folder". Historically, this has contained all pertinent information for school families relevant to the week at hand or upcoming events.
We are excited to be reducing the paper coming your way through the Family Folder by sending a weekly e-blast as well. On occasion, we may duplicate efforts and send things in both formats. We ask that you always read and review both the folder and our email to ensure you are up-to-date on school news and announcements. Thank you!
Building Our Community of Faith
We concluded our first day with a short assembly in the gym called “Weekly Welcome and Worship”. This is a time that we gather to join in song, prayer and thanksgiving each week. We meet and celebrate birthdays, pray as a community and recognize the accomplishments of those among us. It was great to see so many eager, happy faces all gathered! Together we watched our new school video which showcases so much of what makes StMCS special!
Next week, we will introduce all students and staff who are new to our school! We'll share their smiling faces via email with you too!
If you haven't seen our video, you can check it out here.
Weekly School Mass - All are Welcome!
Our first school Mass will take place at our main church at 11300 Frankfort Parkway tomorrow morning, September 7 at 7:45 am. All school Masses will be held at this location for the entire school year. All are welcome - parents, grandparents, and guests may join us any Friday.
Routines & Expectations
Mass is an integral part of our school week. Celebrating the Eucharist is central to our mission as a Catholic school and student attendance is expected. Students need to arrive at the church by 7:30 each Friday (but no earlier than 7:15) and must report to their classroom teachers prior to Mass even if they will sit with a parent or guest. This is when attendance and lunch count is taken. Students will be marked tardy if they check in after 7:35.
This video explains the drop off routines for busses, cars, and those attending Mass.
School Parking Lot Reminders
If you have not yet seen our 1 minute videos on parking lot routines, please view them if you will be driving students to or from school.

Morning Drop Off at School - A few addendums
- Please do not park or drop off students on Ash Avenue at any time. Use the parking lot routine.
- Parents parking to walk students to the door, please park south of the crosswalk in the center rows. Cross at the crosswalk. Parent goodbyes can happen at Door B otherwise please plan to sign in and out at the office.
Marathon Time!
The upcoming weekend and beautiful weather will provide great opportunities to get out and seek your first wave of Marathon pledges. There is an information packet in your Family Folder today and also attached to this message. Be sure to read carefully and capture all the details on this fun and fundraising event!
There are also several openings for workers at our Marathon! Please consider signing up today using the SignUp Genius link and check off one of your event commitments.
Birthday Celebrations
StMCS loves birthdays and celebrating our students. You have likely received communication from classroom teachers by now that we have made the decision to discontinue edible treats as a part of school birthday celebrations. In support of the health and wellness of all, and taking into consideration that classrooms have daily snack time, we will cheerfully celebrate birthdays without additional food or beverages.
We will continue the school-wide tradition of honoring and blessing all students at Weekly Welcome and Worship and granting a non-dress code day for the birthday person. Each teacher or grade level will also celebrate in ways unique to their group to make each child’s day super special. (See communication from individual teachers/teams for more details.)
Parish Festival this Weekend!
St. Michael Catholic Church Festival is September 8 and 9. Check the church website or bulletin for more details! The location is at our church campus on Frankfort Parkway! Come on out and have some fun! We'll have StMCS volunteers there creating crazy "Fair Hair" at our school tent!
