NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL...
This year Mrs. Springborn and Ms. Anderson are planning activities for Red Ribbon Week (RRW) which takes place October 23rd through the 31st. Please be on the look out for future newsletters that will outline student activities during that time. Thank you to both teachers for organizing RRW this year.
Socktober is in full swing. Thanks to the K-Kids and their advisors Ms. Mars, Ms. Anderson and Mrs. Maul for helping students to host this community service project. Thank you to everyone for donating socks. During Socktober, each Friday in October is crazy sock day.
This year we are continuing our writing focus. Each trimester grade levels and I get together and analyze student writing samples - one text type each trimester. We have noticed that our students have retained what they developed the previous year in writing and are applying their skills and knowledge as they reach even newer heights in writing.
In addition, we have expanded our writing focus to write in the area of math. Grade levels look at one writing sample per math topic to analyze how students are developing their reasoning skills when solving problems, use of math vocabulary and application of writing skills learned in English language arts class. For each topic, students will solve their problem using a math sentence, represent their problem with a visual, and explain their reasoning. I observed first grade students writing in math prior to the break. Not only did they do a great job writing in math, students were so excited to use a software program to upload their work to share with their teacher and parents.
Foskett Ranch students continue to soar!

Get Involved
Foskett Ranch Elementary is looking for a parent volunteer to represent our school at the District Parent Advisory Committee (DAC) & District English Learners Parent Advisory Committee (DELAC) meetings. There are only 5 meetings throughout the year. This is a District-level committee made up of parents, staff and community leaders who advise the Board of Education and District staff on behalf of Title I compensatory education program participants. The first meeting is October 25th 6-7:30 pm at Glen Edwards Middle School. Child care will be provided. If you are interested please contact the office at 916-434-5255.
Great American Fundraiser
Thank you for all of your support the past few weeks on the Great American Fundraiser. We met our school goal and greatly exceeded it! Due to this we ran low on our coops. We will distribute the coops to the students who did not receive them last Thursday, as soon as they arrive.
The final prizes will be distributed once the Great American Fundraiser items are delivered to the school and orders are picked up. We will notify you when orders are ready to be picked up, around the first week in November. Thank you again for all your support!
Trunk or Treat
iReady
It is recommended that each week students spend 45 mins on Reading and Math in the iReady program.
To access iReady, have your child log on to the school website http://fres.wpusd.k12.ca.us/ click on the students tab and then on the Clever option. Students can get their access information from their teachers.
Parents make sure to log out of your personal google account before logging your child in.
Attendance
Foskett Ranch is dedicated to academic achievement and success for all students. Regular attendance is and integral part of that success. Many parents are unaware that going “out of town” with their children during school or most family emergencies are unexcused absences. Whenever possible, plan ahead to avoid unexcused absences.
Also, a student absent for a reason other than illness should attend at least the minimum school day. Parents may request a travel study for students who will be absent five or more consecutive days. (At least 5 day notice before the trip, is required for the office to receive the paperwork.)
State law states that absences are excused only if the child is ill, has a medical appointment or there is a death/funeral in the immediate family (1-3 day limit). All other absences are considered unexcused. Three or more unexcused absences and or tardies will result in your child being considered truant. If unexcused absences continue, attendance letters will be sent home, which will start the CA School Attendance Review Boards (SARB) process. If you have any questions about absences please call our school office.
