Learner Profile Trait of the month:
Reading Workshop & Language Workshop
Writing Workshop
Writers will be exploring how informational text is written, including text features and text structure to create writing pieces this month that go with our literacy unit! Students are excited to be finished with their realistic fiction stories, and beginning a new genre of writing!
Talking points in ELA:
What type of instrument would you like to create from recycled materials and why?
What was your favorite part of the mystery unit and why?
Math Workshop
Mathematicians have embraced the order of operations and seem to understand why there is a set of rules to go along with solving equations. As we have turned back to fractions, students are multiplying whole numbers by fractions (both mixed numbers and proper fractions). They think this unit is easy! Therefore, it will not be a long unit. The assessment will be next week which will conclude all things fractions for 4th grade! The following unit will be connecting fractions and decimals.
Talking points in Math:
- What does PEMDAS stand for?
- What is challenging for you in a multi-step word problem?
Science
Questions to ask about science:
- What kind of device did you create for your egg?
- Did your device protect your egg when it was dropped from the ladder?
- What did you learn from this process?
