A Peek Into Our Week

We love stories by Jan Brett, and we love her "peek-a-book pictures!" We read, The Mitten last week, and worked on retelling and sequencing. This week, we will read The Hat, We want our students to be able to tell each other the things that are the same and the things that are different in The Hat and The Mitten. (Compare and contrast using a Venn Diagram)

This week students will continue to experiment with measures of capacity and volume. As children pour materials such as water, sand, and dried beans into and between containers of different sizes and shapes, they naturally begin to make comparisons of capacity. It is fun to observe children during centers with materials at the sensory table. They often pour contents from one container into another to see which holds more. Sometimes they try to fit one container inside another. This activity promotes exploration, thinking, and discovery.

Meet Bee-Bot! Bee-Bot brings fun and excitement into the classroom while inspiring learning. The Bee-Bot is a child friendly floor robot that we are using as a starting point for teaching directional language, programming, and collaboration skills to our youngest students. Mrs. Cole, our SPARQ teacher, visited each Pre-K class and introduced the Bee-Bot to the children. We are all very excited to begin using these cool robots in our classrooms.

Kindness Challenge

Last year, we joined hundreds of schools across the country for the Great Kindness Challenge, and it was such a success that we are doing it again this year. We want to encourage our students to devote an entire week to performing as many acts of kindness as possible. Please be sure to ask your child what act of kindness they did or saw during the school day.
