FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: Will my child be able to get his/her instrument from the band/orchestra rooms on the day of the event?
A: No, instruments need to go home on Friday. The rehearsal rooms will be performance rooms which mean students cannot enter during performances.
A: Park in the main faculty lot and enter through the Cafeteria Doors
Q: What should the student wear for this event?
A: Students should wear nice clothes (avoid wearing jeans, sweats, sneakers, yoga pants etc.)
Q: How early should we arrive?
A: Students should arrive 30 minutes prior to the performance time (see schedule)
Q: Where do we go once we arrive?
A: The main gym (East Gym) is the warm-up room for all events. Music stands and tuners are provided.
Q: When do we head down to the room? Will the accompanist be in the gym?
A: About 10 minutes before your scheduled time, head down to the assigned room. In most cases, the accompanist will either already be in the performance room or show up before you perform.
Q: Can parents and family members watch?
A: Parents and family members are encouraged to watch the performance.
Q: What happens during the performance?
A: *The student performer(s) will tune with the accompanist (or in the case of an ensemble--other students) before the start of the song.
*Then the student will introduce themselves (ensembles introduce each member) to the judge/audience. Hello, My name is _________________and I will be performing__________.
*Perform the piece
*The judge (music teacher from a different school) will then work with the student on improving the piece. The judge will point out some of the great things and things that can be better.*At the conclusion, Thank the Judge and leave the room (wait out in the hallway outside of the room)
*The room monitor will come out to give you your medal card.
Q: What do I do with the medal card?
A: Take the card up to the cafeteria and exchange it for a medal!
Q: What if the instrument has a problem?
A: Jeffrey, from PM Music, will be at school (by the cafeteria) to do repairs and sell supplies.
Q: Do I need a Judge's Copy?
A: If you received music from your music teacher, then the judge's copy is provided to the judge by your music teacher--you're all set!
If you received music from your private teacher, then you will need to give a copy of the music to the judge. The measures should be numbered on the judge's copy!
Q: After I get my medal, then what?
A: You have two options
1. You are free to go home and enjoy the rest of your day.
2. You can get a punchcard at the medal stand and go watch other performances*
After each performance, see the room monitor who will mark the card. Turn in your card to your music teacher Monday for Extra Credit.
*Performers can request that you do not watch their performance, please honor that request.
Lastly, if you owe the accompanist money, please pay the accompanist by the performance date.
