Future Chef Competition Finalist
Our very own 4th grade student Nathaniel Jarrett was a finalist for our local Future Chef competition. His recipe made it to the top 40 regional finalists. We are very excited about this huge accomplishment. In addition, Nathaniel will have his recipe created and served as part of the district's hot lunch meal option one day in June. He will also serve as a judge for this competition next year.
Great job Nathaniel!!
Kindergarten Graduation
Kindergarten graduation will take place on Thursday, June 13th. Our kindergarten team is in need of parent support which may come in a variety of ways.
How You Can Help...
We are looking for parents of current kindergarten students, former kindergarten students, or community members to help with any of the following items or opportunities. We would like to remind you this is something that is not required nor expected, however we have had many families ask how they can support PVP and our students and we wanted to offer up this opportunity.
- Help set up the gym and classrooms on the day of the graduation
- Donated graduation supplies and decorations
- Food, snacks, cakes, drinks, etc
- Possibly volunteer in the classroom on days leading up to the graduation to help prepare students for the graduation ceremony or work on culminating projects, etc (this is something you would need to check with your child's teacher as some teachers may need this support while others may not)
If you are interested in supporting our kindergarten team in any way, please contact your child's kindergarten teacher or contact Melissa Kennedy who is our Kindergarten team representative via email kennedy.melissa@battlegroundps.org
State Testing (SBA) For 3rd and 4th Grade Students
State testing for 3rd and 4th grade students is happening now. Teachers have been working hard all year long to provide their students with amazing lessons, activities, and instruction that is aligned with the 3rd and 4th grade learning standards. The curriculum and instruction teachers have provided not only helps their students be prepared for next year, it also helps prepare their students for the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) which students take in the Spring. Most students have completed their ELA tests and will now be working on their math tests.
Pleasant Valley Primary (3rd and 4th grade students only) will be taking these tests on the following days...
April 22, 23, 26 - ELA Tests (Reading and Writing)
May 6, 7, 9 - Math Tests
May 10 - test make up day for those absent or not complete with the math testing
May 13-17, 20-24, 28-31 - additional make up test dates for individual students who need additional time
How You Can Help
- Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep leading up to the test days
- Make sure your child eats healthy and nutritious meals leading up to test days
- Make sure your child eats healthy and nutritious breakfast the morning of test days
- Talk with your child about providing their best effort on their work during these assessments

April 24th was Administrative Professional's Day where many staff and students wished our amazing secretaries (Jen Schmidt and Mary McNichols). Mary and Jen also received from very thoughtful gifts which they truly appreciated and were grateful for. Pleasant Valley Primary is a much better place because of the hard work, energy, and care that these two ladies provide all of our staff, students, and families each and every day!
May 1st was Principal Appreciation Day and many staff and students wrote nice notes, cards, provided gifts and even a painting to Mr. Michaud and Mr. Pearson. Mr. Michaud and Mr. Pearson truly appreciated all the the kind thoughts and gifts. They feel blessed to be part of this community and school and are grateful for the amazing staff and students they have the honor of working with every day!

Teacher Appreciation Week (May 6 - 10)
Teacher Appreciation Week is this week. The PTA has organized some activities, or gestures you can do each day of next week for your child's teacher in order to show your appreciation for what they do. We have amazing teachers at PVP and they work hard every single day of the week, yes, even Saturday and Sunday to prepare amazing lessons, activities and experiences for your children. These experiences help grow your child academically, socially, and emotionally. I am in and out of classrooms every single day and am constantly amazed at the unique experiences that our students are receiving here at PVP.
Thank you to all of the amazing teachers for all you do to serve ALL of our students each and every day. Although my appreciation is not mentioned as often as it should be, it doesn't go unnoticed or under appreciated!
Thank you also to our wonderful PTA for creating this event in order to recognize and support our staff!
PTA Spring Book Fair
The PTA will be hosting the Spring Book Fair at PVP from May 14th through May 23rd. The book fair will be open during PVP Open House on May 16th from 5:00 - 6:30 in Room 11.

PTA Spring Carnival
Saturday, May 4th was the annual Pleasant Valley PTA Spring Carnival. Our PTA has worked hard all year preparing for the amazing event and based on the smiling faces in the gym and outside, I would say it was a success! There were a large number of great silent auction items, games and activities for the kids, plant and bake sale, as well as snow cones and other great treats for the family. One of the big attractions was the dunk tank where students had the opportunity to dunk many different staff members!
Thank you PTA for all your hard work to support our schools, students, and staff!

Woooo Hoooo ...Classrooms Filled Their Beaver Bravo Jar!!!
Every time a student is recognized for displaying positive behaviors that meet one of our school wide expectations, they receive a Beaver Bravo. They then put this Bravo into their classroom jar and with every individual positive behavior that is recognized, classroom jars soon fill up. Once full, the class dumps their jar into our school wide jar located in the main office which results in a spirit day celebration as soon as our school jar is full. What happens as a result of all of these collective positive behaviors? They ALL help shape Pleasant Valley Primary into the amazing community that we all have the privilege of being part of every single day!

Celebrations From The Last Two Weeks of School!!!
PVP Night of the Arts
Thanks to the many families who participated in the Night of the Arts and the Cardboard Challenge last Thursday. It was a blast! - Mrs. Holterman
Mrs. Hamstra got the event started while directing a marimba ensemble created for the purpose of supporting school assemblies. This consisted of students from various classes who give up their recess at times to practice. They did amazing!!
After this, students worked with their families to create anything they can dream up using cardboard, recycled materials, and their imagination. The results were pretty impressive from doghouses, to carnival games, basketball hoops, houses with a roof and curtains, mazes, boats, race cars, and many other very creative things!
A huge thanks to Mrs. Holterman and Mrs. Hamstra for planning this event and putting on such a fun family activity!
Student Teacher Graduation
Over the course of this year, PVP has been the home to 6 student teachers who recently graduated from their university. Some were with us for a few months, while 4 of them were at PVP all year long. All of these students teachers worked hard to grow themselves as educators while learning great insights from their mentor teachers. We are grateful for the hard work and energy these individuals put into their craft as they provided our students a unique and valuable educational experience. I would like to thank the student teachers for everything they provided to PVP and wish them the best on their journey. I would also like to thank the mentor teachers who provided amazing support all year long!
