Can families enter the building, or can I walk my student to their class on the first day?
Because of high COVID transmission rates, we are limiting access into our elementary buildings when students are in the building. OHA Oregon Community Transmission.
Families will drop their children off at the front of the building where they will be greeted by our staff. Please use this as an opportunity to take pictures and to express joy and excitement for their upcoming school year.
If I can’t walk my child in, how will they know where to go?
Children entering our schools will be greeted with staff who can walk them directly to their classrooms. We have made sure to have all available staff here to help quell fears, support students in getting to their classrooms, and make their first day comfortable and a positive experience.
Does my child get to use the playground equipment this year?
Yes! While students will maintain classroom cohorts during recess, they will have access to the playground equipment. This will be on a rotating schedule to ensure everyone has access to the playground equipment.
How often will my child have PE/Music/Library?
We call these “Specials” and they are on a rotating schedule. Students will have PE 2 or 3 times a week, music 1 or 2 times a week, and Library 1 or 2 times a week, depending on the rotation.
Does my child have to wear a mask all day?
Masks are required for all individuals while inside the school unless they are actively eating or drinking. Masks are not required outdoors, however if you would prefer your child to wear one, we will honor that. Students will be given multiple opportunities to be outside during the day, and additional mask break opportunities will be available as needed.
You can read more about masking in schools here:

Can my child wear a face shield instead of a mask?
In most cases, no, however with a note from your child’s physician, exceptions can be made. Here is the language directly from Oregon Health Authority (OHA):
What if my child is exposed to COVID and has to quarantine? Will my child be doing online schooling?
If an individual student is quarantined, they can still be counted as engaged in academics if they complete the work assigned by the teacher during the quarantine. Depending on the grade level, there may be paper packets or computer-based work assigned. If an entire class is quarantined, comprehensive distance learning (CDL) will be initiated until the quarantine is over.
