Principal's Corner
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are closing out our first trimester of the 2021-2022 school year on November 12. There is always a lot of learning happening in each of our classrooms here at Steeby. Students have started their reading and math intervention groups and they are getting what they need each day. We refer to the interventions as W.I.N. because we believe it is very important for each student to get exactly What I Need for math and reading.
We are continuing to focus on learning and practicing appropriate behaviors at school. Teachers have been working on ensuring positive behavior is rewarded with positive rewards. Students collect Supercat Tickets for exhibiting expected behaviors and they are then able to shop at our school store and purchase things with their tickets. Ask your child what it means to be a Supercat!
Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your child’s education.
Yours in Education,
Christina Johnson

Morning Student Drop Off/Afternoon Pick Up
If picking your student(s) up at the end of the day please show a bit of common courtesy and safety to others doing the same. We recently have witnessed cars driving down the wrong side of Maple Street to get to the parking lot, people pulling out of line instead of waiting for the car in front of them to load, and parents motioning to their child to come to them across the parking lot where traffic is moving. All of these actions could be a safety concern for all of our picked up students and we want to make sure they are kept safe at all times. Please be patient and realize that it normally takes only about 10 minutes for all of the children to be picked up.
Transportation Information
Dear Wildcat Families:
A note from the Transportation Department
The transportation department will NOT be able to allow friends to ride home with students due to the full capacity of our buses. Notes will not be accepted.
Job Openings!
WUS is still short two bus drivers for routes (WUS will train you!) - please apply at transportation@waylandunion.org (express interest to Transportation Director, Tim Washburn).
Thank you for your understanding!
BOOK FAIR WAS A SUCCESS!
Physical Education Fun
We then moved on to Halloween games the week before Halloween. Ask them about ghostbusters and mad scientist! The next few weeks we will play basketball with a similar schedule to our soccer schedule.
Recent athletes of the week: Gavin Jandernoa, Zandyn Romero, and Olivia Prins.
Keep up the exercise with the family. Especially as we get into the colder months, staying active indoors is very important for physical and mental health!

2nd Grade
Second Grade
Students had a great time in October working with oil pastels. We learned about form and different things artists can do to show form in their artwork. Our oil pastel pumpkins turned out great! We rubbed them with cooking oil as the last step to blend our colors together even more.
Adventures in Art
3rd Grade
Third Grade
Students learned about pointillism and space in October. They had fun using q-tips to dot their leaves with fun fall colors. Then they cut their leaves apart and glued them on black paper to show negative space for the lines of the leaf. They turned out really colorful and great!
Notes from Music
Happy Fall from Steeby music! In October we have been singing and listening to fall music. We have been learning about different styles of music and moving our bodies to music. The students experienced music centers for the first time this month. There were four different music stations - playing a game called BUSTED!, exploring Chrome Music Lab on iPads, identifying music notes on a coloring page and using music dice to create rhythms. This week we have been having fun with Halloween songs and the third graders got to use glow sticks as rhythm sticks to a song.

Media Moments
October was a busy month in media class! Check out all the cool skills and activities we did in media class!
2nd grade: Students created All About Me posters using Abcya.com. Students also practiced looking up books they are interested in checking out on Destiny Discover. Abcya.com and Destiny Discover can be found on Information Place: https://sites.google.com/waylandunion.org/libraries/2?scrlybrkr=7dbcdfd1.
3rd grade: Students looked up books they are interested in checking out on Destiny Discover. The website Destiny Discover can be found on Information Place :https://sites.google.com/waylandunion.org/libraries/home. Third graders also took a media skills pretest on skills like digital citizenship and how to locate a book using our library system. The students will take the test again in the spring to show the growth they have made when it comes to their media skills.
November is Picture Book month! So Happy Reading!
