Happy New Year
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year. We are excited to start the 2nd Semester and will finish this year strong.
4th Grade Fun
During the 4th Grade winter party, the students took time to participate in a few compassion projects to show compassion to those in our community. Students showed compassion by making placemats and magnets for two different nursing homes. Students also painted rocks for “Kids of Steele.” Kids of Steel is a group of children, families, and friends united to support the University of Arizona Steele Children's Research Center to teach, to heal, and to discover while improving the quality of life of patients.
Huge thank you to Mrs.
Martinez for organizing these compassion projects for our 4th graders.
Celebrating 4th Grade
We celebrated National Fourth Graders Day on Monday, Jan 8th.
National 4th Graders Day is celebrated on the second Monday in January, which this year is January 8th. Fourth-grade students are taking on more challenges in math, reading, writing, social studies, science, as well as art, music, world language, and physical education.
They work hard, yet still are guided by a wonderful imagination. They really shine when they are in charge of their own learning and usually shimmer brightest when they are able to use their creativity along with their newly-acquired skills. We were excited to celebrate this!
Staff Game
The staff enjoyed a Rock, Paper, Scissors game on the Thursday before break. Each staff member began with a beaded necklace, they approached other staff members to play Rock, Paper, Scissors. If they won the game they could take the other staff members necklace(s). The three teachers with the most necklaces at the end of the day received a gift card. Sra. Prokop had the most necklaces, winning first place, Sra. Cruz came in second and Sra. Barreda rounded it out with third place.

Message from the CV Principal - Mr Rob Henikman
CV will be hosting our annual MLK Day Unity Walk on Monday, January 15 at Sabino Canyon. At 8:00AM, prior to heading over to Sabino Canyon, the CV and MZ choirs will be performing in front of the school. After the performance, a short speech will be given before everyone heads over to the canyon.
I would like to again extend a warm welcome to your school communities to attend the walk. We had a very solid turnout last year, which included students and families from most CFSD schools.
Family Engagement Update
Yearbook Cover Art Contest (5th Graders)
5th graders are invited to submit full-color, 8½ X 11” entries for the cover of Ventana Vista’s 23-24 Yearbook. All entries must be vertical orientation. We’ve had so many wonderful covers over the years, all created by 5th grade students!
As your child considers what to include, he/she might think about:
- What is your favorite thing about Ventana Vista?
- Do you have a favorite lesson or activity?
- What does it mean to be a Bobcat?
- Do you love a particular value here?
- How could you turn that into a colorful yearbook cover?
Creativity and originality are encouraged! Entries are due to the 5th grade homeroom teachers on or before January 25th. The top 10 will be voted on by each class at the end of this month.

Mileage Club
Mileage Club is Ventana Vista's Thursday Running Club. On Thursdays, students join us on the lower field during lunch recess and run laps around the field. Each lap is 1/10 of a mile and as students complete laps they earn charms for their necklace!
Our Family Run is on Thursday, January 18th. Invite your family members - all family members are welcome, or friends who are like family members to cheer on our students! Bring noise makers and lawn chairs if you have them! Please note: There are no easy bathrooms on the field and all visitors must sign in through the front office.
In addition to our family cheerleaders, we will also need volunteers to run the session! Please sign up on our signup genius so we can count on your support. All volunteers must sign in at the front office before their session starts.
